Not really, mine is a bit heavy but I can fit an 8000 on it so I can catch big fish on it, it also looks cool

8000 size reel on a 2-4kg rod might not go so well...

I was sort of thinking the same thing, that's a big reel on a light rod. It or the small reel you use won't be very balanced.

Next project

12-20lb carbon rod with day glow green grips,silver crome guides with green binding for nid weight bruisers such as tailor and the elusive(to me ) mulloway. Post pics tomorrow if it survives some kingies n big stuff from a boat.

Exactly right mate, thats the whole point of a custom rod.
To build a rod that is unique to you and your needs.

here is one of the rods i had built in the late 60's when the high speed spin was the biggest craze going........i built this rod for myself for spinning yellowfin off the stones this stick has served me very well up to this day and age and still gets used from time to time. i know it does not compare to what you young fellas are zipping up these days but back in the 60's and whats available on the market today is a huge difference.
Im sure if there are any older blokes on here from the high speed spin days they will know exactly what im talking about and will appreciate this rod
