Also I've heard rumours of 2pc versions of the 201 and 203 coming out. Any more news? Also which has the stiffest tip out of all the bream models?
Cheers guys.
I think the new models mentioned before have already come out now and are not really "2pc" as expected at first.

I saw their new heavier models are seperated just above the front grip, just like the Steez Chilli Dog, which are usually referred to seperated grip, 1.5pc, or whatever u like to call them....

I doubt Samurai would really release a "true 2pc" rod in that rating as it seems that they want to only make 1pc blank in this "higher end, light /bream series" in order to maximise the properties of the blanks. It is a bit disappointing, but you wouldn't expect Daiwa to bring out 2pc Steez rod either.

from what i have seen in comparison of the older version and the new models
the differences are tangle free guides and the top of the butt above the reel seat is longer.

Still dont know what is the difference between each model - keep hearing different answers. Even went into a fishing store where they stock them and asked but they didn't know???
In simple terms can someone please explain what is the difference with each blank. Which one is the firmist out of the 3 models? Cant say i am a fan of the camo grip.

The 101 and 201 are a very fast action but the 101 has a greater parabolic curve from tip to butt under load. The 203 is a medium action and loads up like the 101. The 201 has a lot more butt strength in it and only the top half loads up. The 201 is definitely the firmer out of the 3.

Also, the reason for the slight drop in price is that they are no longer made in Japan from what I am told. They are built in China now but the quality is still brilliant !!!

I thought they were originally made here? I've played with heaps of them, they are a good rod, but nothing special. For that money I'd be looking at something from japan.

But how does it load up?
I like the idea of a ballsier bream stick that maintains a progressive curve

stiffer is a term that probably is too hard to define/use when describing the overall action.
The action of the 203 is definitely not "stiffer"or faster than the 201, it is slower and more suited to hardbodies. Faster rods are generally more suited to plastics, slower rods are more suited to hards. Ive felt the 3 bream models and i reckon they are all pretty soft in my opinion, and as daiwafreak said, nothing special.

Id say get the 201 for plastics and the 203 for hardbodies as it has a slower action that assists in loading up rods on light HB's and loading up during the take and fight.

IMHO the 201 loads super fast and is tippy, 203 loads further thru the blank and is more progressive.
Cheers stealth.
And as daiwafreak stated you could get some very nice Japanese weapondry for that money.

201 has a fast action with a fast taper, while the 203 is has a moderate fast action with a fast taper, allowing it to load up slower than the 201.

Cowancreekdave, the calzante is definately a ballsy rod, the moderate fast action makes the rod nearly parabolic when fully loaded, but its still got plenty of power. It is a lot stiffer than a lot of the other JDM rockfish rods too, so it isn't as "noodley" as it looks.

Mmmm, these Samurai rods sound (and look) sweet! I'm looking at the 203 for hardbodies using straight through fluoro, what reel have you guys put on it?

I have the 101, 201, 203 and 251(baitcast). The 201 I use for blades and plastics and the 203 for hbs, teamed with Stradic 1000's, both bream outfits.
The other two I use for bass. The 101 I have teamed with a 1000 ci4 and the 251 with a cronarch 50, they are both so incredibly light.
My son has the 203 with a certate 2000 which he absolutley loves.
Love em all
