Something different for this Sunday's Classic

Flathead Prize added to the Classics
You read correctly – there is $100 up for grabs for the heaviest legal size flathead weighed in on Sunday.
Naturally it must caught via lure or fly only and be alive and be released after the weigh in.
The catch is that only those teams outside the top ten placegetters are eligible.

As an additional twist – for this event, as a trial, I will have prizes for the top ten placegetters but ..... exactly which prize each placegetter receives will be via a lucky dip. So, for example, tenth place may walk away with a couple of Engel Fridge freezers.

Purely out of curiousity, what is the reasoning behind this decision?

I think you're better off rewarding the succesful team/s with the best prizes.

In W.A we have a few anglers a cut above the rest who seem to win all the goodies time and again, all the rest are there to make up the numbers , it might spark more interest with folks now thinking they have a chance at a top prize, its a win win situation unless you are the winner maybe

The reason there are people that consistantly finish in top places is because they spend more time, effort and money understanding how to catch quality fish. IMO these people should be rewarded for their success and others should push themselves to challenge these people/ teams.

I am not saying this is a good idea, just my opinion. Thumbs up to the flathead idea though.

Im going to leave my opinions out of this as it may look selfish on my behalf. Although what i can suggest as this is only a trial that there should be a vote for it to stay or not to stay at the end. Being a diplomatic society all voices should be heard and a vote cast at the end to see which preference the majority swing towards.

Thumbs down

I must admit this is a little perplexing to me as to why we need to change the current format of those anglers that fish the best receive the rewards for their labours.l just don't see rewarding 10th with the number 1 prize as fair. Those that put in the extra time to perfect their chosen sport and it is a sport should be rewarded accordingly.
The guys that fish in the top ten deserve to be rewarded for their efforts appropriately not by a lucky ticket out of a hat.
As a lot of people are aware fishing is not easy or most of us wouldn't do it if it was.But to reward people for not quite making the grade is more insulting to them in my book.
My last 3 bream events have been shockers no secret but l don't want a booby prize to make me feel all warm and fuzzy l want to finish in that top 10 again and earn my stripes.l look at guys like Szarn,Dror and in recent history Alex and aspire to be as consistent in my efforts as these guys.l don't want to be handed a prize I didn't earn off my own efforts.
If there is to be a vote then mine is a NO.Keep the rewards to those that earn them. Those that want a lottery take a "slik pic" on the weekend. JMO

Steve.

P.S The flathead idea is a bit of fun though well done Graig.

im fine with this new idea...i see all points but if it gets more boats on the water then thats more cash and we can then have anotr catagory maybe for the pros..but...the bigger problem is still that boaters keep pairing with boaters...if every boater took a non boater then we could have 50 boats in every comp...more money to do different things with and then everyone could be pleased...but...as stated...im fine with this idea...and and idea that you can only win once in a year if it ever comes up.lets others have a go.
