Try knots that double over the line. With FC knots the larger the diameter the turn the better.
San Diego Jams, palomars or if desperate a doubled until it works great.

I never say never, until this crap cost me quite a few fish on a particular trip. Even they're 20 stuff broke like cotton.

Saying that though I'm happy to get a PM off anyone thinking of buying some great value fc from an independent operator in NSW.... I'll let you know by PM the "brand" I had issues with. To be fair the 6lb I bought might have been ok but I'm not game to risk it. Just went out and bought 3 spools of yamatoyo |

A fast and very strong knot for FC. Because it's simple it's easy to maintain an even pressure and line lay when tightening. I use it with Sugoi, Sniper & Shooter FC Also the Vanquish to me is a very plain Jane reel...in fact with exception of the Calcutta conquest, none of the Shimano range looks pretty to me. They just provide exemplary service without fail and I don't care if they get scratched.

I don't use 4lb leader but I would like to comment and just base it on theory.
4lb is 4lb, it would be hard not to stress the line even if you were doing a uni under water. with my leader (6lb - 60lb) to pull the turns down best I wet it and hold the main line between my thumb and index finger and slide the knot down with the same hand pinkie nail (other hand pulling down on the swivel, clip, hook, etc). No heat, no warp in the line. Maybe in your case the line is getting nicked by the pin end of your clip. I gather a fine clip such as what you are using; 4lb leader would be short lived if a fish shaking around rubbed it under pressure along the clip some how. Trial and error, go no clip. I'm sure that will solve the issue. |

I used a way of rigging light line for bigger species. Was obsessed with catching a barra on a MB live-X smolt. I may be of use due to its high breaking strain and abrasion resistance.

I posted it under setting up gear.
Would that help your plight? http://www.breammaster.com/forum/sho...503#post646503

I use a palomar knot to joint the clip. Never had any problems with that.
