Didn't see it mentioned, but you can get the remote for the Kota as well. With the new digital Kotas from 80lb and up, I have the new 80lb on the Ranger, they come standard with the remote and no pedal. Must also mention that the new pedals with the Kotas are a big improvement. Much better unit.

One thing though, it's worth getting some straps and a Kota tie down to reduce the movement of the head. I've attached a couple of pics.

Simple.
If you think something is wrong with it take it in and get it fixed, they have the best service in the buisness.
Can someone tell me how long it takes to get a motor guide fixed, who sevices them???
Harks98 try some cutting board see if you can get some from a plastics supplier

Hey Stephen, how are champ!

Mate, I agree with you totally, when it comes to current and wind auto pilot reigns supreme! but I have to add........when it works!!! I don't think I've ever used one that hasn't had issues, or any mates that haven't with either the foot control, steering motor, or autopilot. We've even had to tape shifters to the heads so we can use it as a transom mount. Twice at tournies we've gone to borrow someones spare.....but they've been taken by someone else who's motor has DohDohDohDoh itself in one way or another. Apparently the new ones don't have any issues, but I ain't paying over $2000 to find out!
On the anodes mate, I just got one from a riptide and replaced the prop nut on the Maxxum with it.

If I have any issues with the MG, I just have to send it to the dealer I bought it from. I've bought an adjusting nut which took two days and was sent from the mainland, so if I ever have issues, hopefully it'll be a quick turnaround

Brad, I've snapped a shaft in half on a Riptide...... it deployed in rough water while on the move. I should of had straps like Bear has, I've got them now though and use them religiously LOL

Cheers

Addict

Ive heard of it happening too actually, in WA and yes in rough water it deployed. I think you are supposed to slide the black screw in clamp down when moving but dont see it happen much. For running into things it would be hard compared to bending a metal shaft

Im pretty sure you can get the minnkota annodes that sit in with the prop nut

Yep just checked heres the link mate

Mate.. haven't been out, but apparently they're freezing there butts off and sooking

Oh, 2 days wasn't a turnaround, it was a phone call asking for one part to get delivered.......didn't send anything off to get fixed, I'm sure it'd be at least a week or two if that was the case. It is Tassie after all

Cheers mate

I'm still using my original RP55AT, nearly 5 years down the track with no serious issues to report..and trust me the thing has seen some serious running time due to those electric rounds.

Fitted the wireless CoPilot to it last year and couldn't be more impressed with the system. I can't praise enough being able to control the motor with the tip of your thumb on your rod while fighting a fish with the same hand..absolutely gold.

Was fishing with Chris Lemess a couple years ago when his Kota 'auto deployed' at 40 plus knots into full on chop as it wasn't secured properly...we both thought the shaft would be in pieces but it took the force without a problem.

The new models look great with the standard features they offer now, and from all reports their service is still the best around.

Not sure Salmo, mine came with the Ranger, but have a chat to Sewelly and the guys at Dinghy World for $$$. They are both pretty good. One thing though, the new 80lb does not come with a foot pedal and to be honest, if you're going to get one then look at the US pedals off Cabelas. From my experience they are a better pedal than the ones they are selling with the new units here.

HTH.

May be worth giving Rod at the Joondalup Boat Shack a call for a price on Minn Kota's.

He has assisted a lot of the breamers over the years.
