That's because like most of their reels, (Stella and heavy overhead aside) Shimano keep all the good stuff for the JD market. But, now that they own Loomis and I love my Loomis rods I will give my vote to Shimano.

I think Megabass are beautiful looking rods and reels but are too much like artwork. I would be too worried about damaging the aesthetics of them in day to day fishing to justify their purchase.

Gotta agree on your comments about the Megabass rods. They look like pieces of expensive art. However, coming from my limited experience and use of several Megabass rods, they just don't perform well enough to justify the price tag. One thing I noticed with all of the MB rods that I've held and used is lack of feel and sensitivity. I think it comes down to the fact that their blanks are rolled in China and then the assembly and bling are added in Japan.

Duffs or megabass if I had to choose a production rod.

The top three would have to be duffs millers and megabass in no order. They should be on the list

Cheers
Chris

Megabass Destroyer Orochi Peak Performance Mirage F2-70DGS
Megabass Destroyer Super Full House F2-611XS
Megabass XOR Silver Shadow SSX-72ML
Megabass Orochi X4 Scramble Tour F2-68X4S II
Megabass Orochi Jade Python F4-74XS
+ a few of the Phase 2 Destroyers, can't remember specific models. One of them has a silver painted split grip.
+ another model of the Orochi X4, can't remember specific model. It was 1 piece.

There were some which were ok, but I did find that all of them lacked feel and sensitivity. They were also all a bit on the heavy side. I think the worst one that stuck in my mind was the XOR Silver Shadow. Felt like a heavy broomstick. I have the suspicion that Yuki Ito puts more effort into making his products look nice rather than making them perform. Like I said before, there is no getting away from the fact that Megabass blanks are rolled in China. This is why I prefer rods in comparable price ranges that have more input in blank quality and overall performance than style and bling. Please remember that it is my personal opinion If Megabass rods/reels work for you, then I encourage you to keep on using them.

Also forgot to mention, Daiwa SVF Compile X rods and GLX's are also great.

Hey Daiwafreak,

Where are Evergreen blanks made? I can't find any info on it. A link would be great if you have one.

I've loved all the MB blanks I have used and currently own. Most of the Orochi range is the low end of MB and generally fairly cheap. Probly why you weren't huge fan of most of them.

Just because the blanks are made in china doesnt mean they are poor quality. Just means it keeps the cost down a bit (I know I have bought one in AUS they definately hit you for the bling hahaha)

Not that I am a massive MB fan
