Is this where we need to clarify what we should be intending to do. I may also gain knowledge ,,and that's always good.

My block of pine is not to support the transom but to stop the motor jumping around.
The motor is secured to the transom, that is part of the boat.
The boat is secured to the trailer that is sometimes not secured to the road.
Everything moves as one ,,we have security.[/QUOTE]
when your on the road travelling, have a look at the boats, more so the motor as it moves and flexes the transom, when there hitting bumps ect, thats why i supported the motor from near the gearbox
cheers stuart

For fear of being obvious.,the boat is the prime area for protection. Thanks for that.Makes sense esp. with the weight of the big donks. I have learnt something.

i used to do some alloy welding, and repaired a few of the transoms for mates boats, even a 5 or 8hp can do the damage, it just a matter of time or distance travelling
cheers stuart
i do like the look of the lock and load, tidy efficient and fair priced,

Thanks again to all that have posted!
Again I just would like to add a little modern day theory on the transom issue. The reason being today that we still read or preach that transoms need, and only need support dates so long ago.
Go back 20 year ago, sure transom's of that era had a lot of flex. These days its not a significant issue with modern, more advanced designs in both hulls and outboards.
One-most transoms are built/engineered to physically handle the weight of an outboard, this is part reason of a boat builders compliance plate stating max.hp. It's not just that a hull has a certain velocity, it also duplicates the amount of weight the transom is able to withstand.
Two- most outboards of today are always loaded and supported by the main tilt piston, so it can't 'bounce' up and down as once referenced, creating unnecessary forces on the transom.
You can easily test this by trimming the motor up a little, say half way within the power trim, then trim back down a tad, now grab the leg and see if you can make it move up or down.
The trailer style/ transom saver/or travel arm, does not stop the motor from moving side to side!
All of the important rigging equipment of your outboard,is being flogged every time u trailer it!
This is why the patented 4 point inline load design of the Lock n Haul simply will not allow the outboard to move in any direction!
And yes, i agree 'it's a very efficient device for a very fair price'

Just use a piece of metal pipe which hooks into the trailer and is strapped onto the leg of the etec.

Might need something better especially for the drive to Townsville which is coming up

I use a thick piece hard rubber as it absorbs any shacking or vibration.

Congrats to Alex, mate your name was drawn out thanks to my kids!
Thanks to all that took the time to post. Hopefully I can do something similar again soon. For anyone that may be still interested, please drop me a PM or check out Lock n Haul on the web. Jim Smith, the man behind L & H, has some really good footage showing the difference between this and other methods travelling on the same road.
Alex please check your PM box

Wow, thanks Scott!

Very surprised, hardly win anything, say thanks to your kids for me. Much appreciated.

Great product looking at the specs and surely will serve me well - the wooden block is going to a retirement village

Cheers and thanks for sponsoring this site.
