Yep i agree that sharp edge is a problem waiting to happen. I notice in the pictures you have posted with the Decoy clip that the protruding end of the clip is quite flat and sharp as well although after using them for better than 10 years have not experienced problems with that. Just something to be aware of i guess. If any thing we sometimes find the thin braid we use manages to go behind the curled joint on the other side but it does not happen often and then only while preparing to fish not in the actual process it's self

Yeah Im yet to notice sharp edges being an issue or my leader ever getting wrapped around a clip while fishing. Doesnt mean it cant happen but I assume its an exceptionally low percentage deal based on it never happening to me.

I with you - the only time line ever gets tangled with a clip is when my main line braid some how comes into contact while transporting or rigging up.

Yeah since I basically stopped chasing bream - I've found I just buy everything off Ali Express these days - I may have to sharpen the odd hook - snip a couple of hundred snaps and play roulette with the quality of the items - but there are some real gems on that site, that will out perform product 30 times their price, when Im using them.

Only problem is, when I go to restock a few years later - the items are nowhere to be found - so these days if I find one I like - I just grab a couple of hundred of them

Jeezes Larry, that's a lot of clips. Are you stocking for ALL of your afterlives as well?

They're my spares.

They cost 2 or 3 bucks for 100 so I tend to stock up on a variety, from a few different stores, just in case some are duds or not fit for purpose.

"Fit for purpose" seems to change over time so I tend to accumulate a variety of clips. Sometimes I like a really fine wire clip for little bibbed minnows or other dainty lures - but I also like chunky tough units for other species.

I did just receive 300 clips from a recent bulk purchase - so the spares stash is looking pretty healthy at the moment.

But I also use them in my bait fishing aswell. So Ive got sets of clips, spread out through a variety of different tackle bags.

I wont have to stock up any time soon - The bases are covered for the moment

I struggle with the clips. I've tried several times to use them, but my sausage fingers find if faster to tie a new knot.

Yeah needle nose pliers are handy - but you need to wear them in a holster on your hip so you can access them in a split second or its too much buggering around.

I change lures too often to not use them - my leader would be 20cms long by the end of a session if I tied a new knot everytime I changed

Maybe if I could just find a lure that worked I wouldnt have to change so often

Forceps aren't expensive maybe even Ali express has some and they do work. We have accrued 5 or 6 sets over the years from minor surgeries. They are a disposable item for the GP so we just get him to give us the sets he has used on us. We use them not only for clips and removing fine trebles from fish but also removing pin bones from the Flathead we catch. A very useful tool indeed.
