ive previously lost a better fish on a grub and caught others on turtlebacks. they say beach worms are jewies fav food so worm type lures makes sense i guess. i normally use 1/12 or 1/8 jigheads depending on current but these are intended for bream/trevs and if a jewie gulps it, a bite off is likely with 6 or 8lb leader. I use 1/4 jigheads with bigger/thicker hooks on the heavier rod and 30lb leader.

Yeah something with sharp teeth and the ability to cut a mullet in half with out even rattling the bells was the culprit.

Yeah I'd have to concur on both points - the cut is so clean - and the fact the bight didnt even register on the rod tip on a running sinker rig - and the relatively narrow "horse shoe" shape of the bight, points toward tailor. And there were some big tailor hanging around the mouth a few months back.

Here's what the majority of my freshly engulfed livies look like when a Jews had a go at it. Sharp pin pricks to match their teeth.
