Question Short Structure Rod

Hey Guys,

As the title suggests I'm after a short rod for fishing structure like hulls, pontoons and jetties etc. I've fallen in love with this type of fishing but I've quickly learnt just how important casting accuracy is.

I've been using my TSR862 GLX which is a little too long at 7'2" and my 820 DSR GLX 6' 10" which I feel is a little on the heavy side and not too ideal for /24th ounce jigheads. Thoughts about this people or is the DSR highly ideal?

I've been looking at the SJR720 IMX and moreso the SJR6400 IMX. Steersy has given me some excellent feedback on these rods and it sounds and appears perfect but at 5'4" on the SJR I'm hoping I can atleast get some distance with it.

I'll mainly be fishing small placcies on 1/12 - 1/32 ounce jigheads and the occasional hardbody.

There is no limit on price. Been looking at some Megabass rods but know nothing about them. Chief/Fella where you at? Reason for the choice in loomis is because I can get them at a really great price and have been fishing them since the start.

Cheers guys

look into "trout" rods, most brands that do one usually have a 5'6" model

6'0 nitro vapor... very nice rod- light as a feather yet powerful as hell. And a great insurance policy to go with it.

They are pretty hard to get though aren't they?

Megabass Deepthroat or Lycaon Competition. Both 6'8'' and both extremely good.

PM me if you want info on either of them Joel.

Yerp. You need to know where to look. I can also highly recommend the deepthroat. Might be a bit long though.

Hey Guys much appreciate the help and assistance.

I've looked at Nitros I'm going to try find them in shops to see how they feel in hand. They look fairly decent.

Same goes for the MB rods I'd love to be able to hold them in hand. They look like freakin weapons! Looks like they have a hefty price tag to go along with it.

Thanks Chief and Fella I'll definitely grab some info from you guys as I start looking at the range and boy is it a big one!

Forster, Steersy actually got me onto these rods. He gave me a rundown and they sound fantastic.

Thanks Guys!

The 66" Vapor handles this purpose nicely but if i had the choice i would have gone with the 6 footer. Also iv'e had a play with the Daiwa Black Label 6011ULXS and it is perfectly suited to what your after. Got the bloke in store to load the rod up for me and bloody hell its got some guts down low. And it wont set you back much either, for $275 its pretty hard to beat. Then again if you are wanting to throw abit of cash around and want something abit blingier then have a look at the Nories Roadrunner Structures. If you want any info on them, give me a PM.

Hey Joelozzy,

You will definatley get some distance out of the SJR6400 mate as it often outcasts rods of much greater length in my experiance.

Best of luck with your search hope you find the rod that suits your needs best, as I mentioned in my PM... I love my SJR 6400 for this sort of work but each to their own mate.

Cheers
Steersy

I have a Black Label 631 ULFS and it is a sick rod!! Ultra accurate at 6'3" and has a nice parabolic action for hardbodys. It's definitely meant for hard bodies but can twitch lightweight plastics nicely, just I am not to sure how it would go setting the hooks into a nice bream. It's fairly ballsy but for an UL rod you can't complain I haven't had a feel of much else around this size so can only really comment on this rod. Good luck with you choice though mate!!

Cheers, Callum

Hey,

I have a Megabass Destroyer full house, its 6ft great for punching gulp shrimps on resin heads or stick minnows. Plenty of low down grunt and can pull a fish from structure.

Cheers,

SJR6400 mate you can pick them up for a good price, ad they are ballsy as! Have good
Casting because they are so short but a hint of softness in the tip so u can have
A bit of finesse when it's needed. I use mine as a racks rod, and for when I'm Working pylons and it hasn't let me down.

In saying that though, if cash isn't the problem I'd go the megabass every time.
