How do I dis-assemble a Freams?

hi guys,
as you may already know my freams took a quick dip in some salt/brackish water. Now I have taken pretty much everything apart but the gear box and foot as I'm not sure what might fall out. I was wondering what size alan key I need to take the screws off and what I can expect to find.

I can't be bothered paying $40+ just to give it a clean after I have just done that/can do that myself. I have already given it a rinse like some have suggested and let it dry etc. Also what lubes/grease do you suggest for cleaning and greasing reels?

I'd send it back. Most older reels without oil or mag seal I will happily service myself. I dropped my Steez in the salt water a while ago and pulled it all apart. Gave it a good spraying with Protecta lube. After I was happy every inch of the reel was washed out by the spray I gave it heaps of Protecta oil and put it back together. Good as new! But I dunno with these oil seal reels mate, never tried.

Mine also went swimming offshore at xmas time... its now with diawa cause I plan on it lasting longer than 6 months

If you do decide to take it apart, make sure your hands are clean and dry, don't use any aerosol anywhere near it and don't use any soap or solvents etc, as they could permanently stuff the oil seal.

I don't think I'd even try that to be honest fisho! Pretty risky task you're better off paying $40 for a service over $215 for a new reel if you stuff it!

Just checked the schematic looks pretty simple not many parts, if you cant figure out how to strip it down from the schematic I'd do as the other fellas have said and send it in.

your right it is simple but I don't have the right tool to un-screw those star screws... It works fine and all and there are no salt crystals in sight let alone water but I'm just worried that something will happen to it later down the track. but if it works fine then I think I'll just leave it and no I am not sending it back to daiwa and not be fishing for a month and if the reel shows signs of something being wrong then I'll send it back

Dunno pretty risky! Could be fine, really depends how much salt water got in it. It could crap itself in a month or it could be fine for years. Because ATM you can't fully pull it apart you don't really know where the salt got to.

You can find those tools in most hardware stores.

I service my reels all the time. Mostly my t3 cause it gets so much use. But you need all the right tools and greases and oils before you can consider taking it apart. Regarding salt, that's a diferent matter, if you don't know what your doing already I woulnt attempt it. Sure you're not going to be fishing for a while but it will stuff up at some point and flushing it with fresh could have pushed salt further into the reel. I would send it off, it's a small price to pay for the peice of mind of knowing you wont have an on going problem regarding corrosion.

Agreed don't bother mate. I've done that in the past not knowing what I was doing and seriously stuffed my reel. Not worth it.

Don't spend the money on a round of beers the last thing we need is a drunk under age fishofanatic getting around the forum

Worth the $40 believe me.
