Port Phillip bay

Heading out into port Phillip bay next Sunday weather permitting and was wondering if my 2-4kg t-curve would handle what ever fish are around and also would 3lb braid be ok? If not I've got some 10lb I can use. Also what lures can you guys reccomend? And what fish would they catch.
Thanks in advance
Cheers Denham

Where in PPB are you fishing? If you are targeting pinkys, 3lb and your 2-4 T-Curve would be fine. Your outfit should also be ok for squid and salmon aswell. If you want to catch some big reds, then I'd change your line.

Cheers,

Got no clue where one of my dads mates invited him and I so I want know where we're going till the day. So I might as well take both spools. I have 145 mm flick baits in the glow colour does anyone know if these will work? And also could I use 70 mm placcies or would that be to small.
Cheers Denham

I'd probably bring your out for for pinkys, salmon and squid, and get a heavier outfit for snapper. Not sure if flickbaits work, but gulp jerkshads work well.

Flickbaits work just as good as the gulps. I use a 2-4kg tcurve on all sized pinks but fights can get hectic on the bigger fish. But its no problem with 1 bait rod out at most...

If you do get onto a bigger fish just take it nice and slow. And if you want to release any, swim them beside the boat until they're about to rip you over the side. Princess, pilly, evil minnow and slimey are my favourite colour flickbaits

Personally, I would take out the 10lb line mate. Its not finesse fishing and you dont want to be losing fish because you will be using a light drag and they may end up digging you into reef. Id use the 10lb. If you get small fish, you can loosen the drag and have the same style fight if you want, and if you get a big fish, you can beef up the drag and fight them "properly".

That said, 3lb braid will be able to subdue most fish, but there is a risk involved obviously.

As cobby said in regards to lures, especially evil minnow and pillie colours, they are great for PPB! Also grab some turtleback worms in pumpkinseed, pinkies and big snapper love those! Not quite sure why though, but even 5kg+ snapper eat them!

Yeah I've got a heavier rod I can use. What weight jig heads do you use on the pinkies? I've got from resin heads to 1/2 oz

With pinkys, go as light as you can. I like to use 3" minnows on them, they seem to love them, and they also seem to go nuts when the sun starts to go down.

I've got Pillie flickbaits in 70mm would they work? If not I'll just go get some bigger ones. It's not like I really need an excuse to go to the tacke shop.

So like 1/8 type stuff and go up from there? Or start even lighter?
Thanks for all your help with my 101 questions. I've never done off shore fishing before and am really excited thus all the questions
Cheers Denham

1/8oz jigheads will be fine, pinky's aren't really fussy. Blades, I would go for 1/8, 1/4 or 1/2.

Just remembered that I've got 100mm bloodworm wrigglers too would they be a better option than the 70mm flikies?
