Balancing

Hey guys,

this is just a response to another thread, feel free to add anything though obviously!

Generally speaking, when a combo balances "properly"( and I use that term loosely) a finger on the front edge of the reel seat ( close to where the top foot of the reel is) should result in the outfit balancing horizontally. This doesnt happen too often with most outfits, and I tend to allow a 3-4cm range to balance my outfits, if Im going to be pedantic about it then 1-2cm.

Judging by your photos, the certate seems butt heavy. But that because your finger isnt on the right spot. If your checking if a rod balances then your finger generally shouldnt be on the blank ( unless thats where you hold your rod). The purpose of this whole balancing thing, is to make the outfit seem as though its lighter, by placing the pivot point within your hand whilst your holding it. If the pivot point is infront of your hand, its tip heavy, and vice versa. For this reason i cant say it wont balance, if you hold your rod on the blank, it will balance just fine for you.

I have held vapors and own a lox which is ultimately the same rod, and have messed around with what is balancing on it. Have put on a steez, new certate, etc, and even at 230 grams including the handle, the new certate still makes the rod tip heavy. Here are some photos of where the balance point is on the lox with the certate, and the result of trying to balance it in the standard manner. Also attached is how an outfit should balance if holding the rod at the front half of the grips.

Its all personal preference, but seeing as Im trying to give my opinion to this bloke, im going to give it from my perspective and try and give the best information i can.

haha yeah mate theyre a hard rod to balance nicely!

But look, theres no problem with it at all. My egi rod doesnt balance at all but i still enjoy using it. Even a few of my outfits dont balance but when they feel nice to use who gives a crap. its all personal preference.

It also relies heavily on where you hold the rod. Some blokes hold it right neat the back, and a reel cant possibly balance if you hold it there as the only weight you are holding to is the tip of the rod, no reel behind your hand to even it out.

I have started focusing more on balancing though as I do tend to hold the rod in front of the reel and have 1 finger on the blank, and it is just more comfortable for me if the outfit balances.

Not the end of the world if it doesnt. Mind you, a 200 gram reel on a vapor would annoy the hell out of me!

The Fireblood does nicely though

Yeah i never actually knew that I always assumed it was the front of the grip.

I need a good rod for my steez 2500

Any ideas?

I am contemplating your PM. I am weighing up options and consulting my legal department. While you're waiting... Clean your room

ohhhh I get it now, you were being funny.

Its just that it didnt make any sense because you wrote meet and great. You meant to write meet and greet. Obviously AFN has a low standard when it comes to hiring advertising managers...im sorry that was harsh, ill just go read my meet and greet magazines that dont exist...
