Best Barra Lures

Hey Everyone,

I'm heading up to Weipa next week to hit the river systems for some barra. As I have never caught Barra before i'd like to hear what everyone recommends as a 'must have' lure.
Will be stocking up soon and all suggestions will be much appreciated

Thanks!

I know try hard was having some success on the x-rap's last year. But he would probably be a good person to ask. Or just look up his profile and search for posts he usually has pics of the barra + lures.

have fished weipa before,top spot

i like gold bombers[still],and some surface fizzers like "bills bugs" are a must.

dont forget to use some softies on worm hooks,as they wont snag, and can be thrown deep into the fallen trees/mangroves.guides hate un-snagging trebles,if your casting isnt up to scratch you wont catch many barra.softies on worm hooks allow you lots of leeway with your casting

i feel that casting accuracy and boat positioning is more important that which lure you throw.
my 2-bobs worth.

cheers

Have got some gold bombers as the guy in tackle world said that I'd be crazy without having one in my tackle box.
As for softies, I did get some jungle hooks and some jerk shads for getting right into the snags with some good action out.
Casting accuracy shouldn't be a problem as I've had lots of experiance with my baitcaster, just never in the river systems..... only in dams for bass.

Thanks again for the replys. All input is very valuable to me!
Keep them coming!!!!!

Gold and banana bombers are fantastic. Normally the smaller model is what I use up here, the one with only 2 trebles (Not 3 like the standard ones).
Also the 80 mm X-Raps swims so good! Swim similiar to the bomber in a way but better.
But they both work and should be what you want.
hth's,

they are nice lures, but i would'nt throw them at barra, there are some cheaper lures that will do a great job too. I fish with Isaac (tryhard) alot, you wont go wrong with X-raps etc i dont think the fish up there at too educated
