Trebles for the Strikepros
Its no secret that the trebles for the strikepros are too weak out of the box. So far I've used the Daiichi bronze coloured ones and they are perfect for the job. Are the red daiichi ones just as good? Basically, I'm concerned about the difference in weight (if any) and how the colour may affect bite rates. Having used the bronze ones and caught fish on them, I'm wondering if the red ones will be equally well-received...

Hi Chunqx
I would not be too concerned about the colour of the treble. The red hi tensile trebles from Diachi are mean't to be in line with the school of thought on the bleeding bait theory. Well last year in Megabucks was the last time I fished a tournament with a diachi treble (red hi-carbon #8). Brand new hook which broke after about 15 seconds on it's first hookup, once burn't twice as shy. If I was you then I would be looking at getting a good treble in the right size and not too fine in wire diameter. That would definately be more important than wondering about colour. I found some nice little VMC's in size 12 that may do the job but am yet to try them on the Strikepro. Last edited by madsurfe; 02-05-2005 at 11:59 PM. |

The VMCs you got wouldn't happen to be the balck in colour ones would it? I got a pack of 10 of the black VMC ones in size 12, put it on strikepro and when I hooked up on the first fish, it bent all out of shape and I had to replace them. Two trebles per fish thrown away. They were slightly cheaper than the daiichi ones but when you have to chuck them out after every fish, it works out far worse than getting the better ones first up.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the strike pro's come with VMC's?
I'm not sold on the VMC's as I missed probably 5-6 hookups on a strike pro without changing trebles at Perth comp. And they are thin and have had a couple straighten on me. JMO

I agree the VMC's are softer than most, but I find that their gauge makes them stick better than most as well. I use the VMC black and red and occasionsally the Tiny Strong if I want something a bit heavier.

Are you guys referring to the Pygmy's and Pygmy II's? Just asking as I picked up a Pygmy II at the show and the trebles are tiny. would it be alright to replace them with size 12 owner's?

I sold on Owners for most things as well, but they don't do a treble small enough to compete with the VMC's. JMO. That's the reason I still have them in the box.

Agreed Bear. I think the VMC's that come with the Strike pro's just lack in guage.

If you cant use size 10s on them Id maybe look at gama 12`s for strength instead of owner 12`s as the other week I was running size 10 on the back and 12 on the front at Megabucks and every fish I caught bent the 12`s and the 10s were always fine.
Ive got a fair amount of 12`s that will probably not get used for a while. IMO VMC`s are the same, very soft but have great penetration, and Ive used them many a time, they do bend on most fish, but I straighten them and sharpen and re-use......... There seems to be a bit of a trade off when going to size 12 IMO, not entirely convinced especially if I was running 12`s on the front and back then I could see lost fish at some stage..... Im just waffling cheers

The VMCs that come with the Strikepros are not size 12s. They're definitely smaller than size 12. I'd say they'll have to be size 14 or 16. I don't see trebles sold any smaller than size 12s. Not that I would use them either. Size 12 is good enough for bream.

Chunqx , do yourself a favour ,and get some Dynatec trebles , size 12. They come in packs of 50 for around $9 , . In my opinion ,they work just as well ,as the owners ,but a fraction of the cost . They are also far stronger than the VMC ... The only prob youll find is that they will turn your floating Strikepro ,into a slow sinking lure .But as long as the tempo is kept up on the retrieve , you wont have any problems....The pygmy 2 ,is fitted with upgraded VMC trebs , but go the Dynatec....

I saw the Dynatec trebles and I'm going to great lengths to make the strikepros either a very slow floater or a true suspending lure so the last thing I want is for it to sink. Where do you get them $9? The best I saw was $17 which is still cheap but I opted for the slightly more expensive black VMC hooks which I now regret getting.
I have quite a few of the red daiichis which I will use for now. |

I actually got them for half that again $4.50 from Boronia marine,as they had a sale . Although they have none left,as i bought the last three packs . Im sure that you will still be able to get them from somewhere else for around the $9 mark . Where were they trying to charge you $19? I doubt that youll find any trebs that wont sink a Strikepro , as you said , the smallest treb on the market is a 12 , ... Good luck
