Ecogear SX-40 colours..
Say, it appears the ecogear SX-40s are the flavour of the month and the main colour recommended so far is the firetiger colour. Can someone please put up a pic of the firetiger colour? Apparently there may be variations of the firetiger colour like Docks firetiger or maybe I misunderstood the other posts..
Other pics of sx-40 colours that you swear by are also welcomed... Say as a side question, what makes these ecogears stand out above the others like scorps and Attack minnows etc? |

That one has worked best for me too(clear yellow one), 2nd best would be dark green one. 40's do seem to work better than 48's, why? Dont know

I've only got one colour also the clear/yellow Foster legend, so obviously my favourite. It's restored my faith the hardbodies in my local waters. Seems to pull the fish the soft plastics won't.

Clever marketing...Is Eco-gear a Japanese company? Cos if it is, they've really learnt to sell things to us Aussies...label it with our beloved local names and slap an Aussie flag in the shape of a bream on the front...

I went for one of each of 302, 303, 306, 307, but that coz I already had some small brightly coloured strike pro's.
Even the transperant ones work at night. But I have seen the fire tiger lure take some very good fish. Last edited by yellow door 1; 04-04-2005 at 11:19 AM. |

You know, I've noticed that transluscent lures can work just as well at night/in low vis, just so long as they throw out a bit of vibration and the retrieve is slow...I found that out in Tassie when I was casting under the docks at night with a small grass minnow in that natural greenish colour and just tweaking it back real slow for pike and yellowtail. Anyway, back to the SX-40, do people feel that the transluscent body appeal to the bream any more than a lure with an opaque one? I'm curious because a lot of new generation hard bodies have the same transluscent colouring and that yellow spot above the abdominal cavity too...

Curiosity hooked the bream..
The natural translucent colours arouse more curiosity in fish. It's like they can't quite see exactly what it is, and suck it in to test it, unlike a distinct profile that they can assess without hitting. That's why they work good even in off coloured water or at night as well as in the day. Baitfish try to camouflage themselves as much as possible, so why not try that with lures?
