Non-steering Kota

My RT55/AP has thrust (both slider and boost pedal) but lost all steering control between last use (SSNS) and today.

Any help greatly appreciated.

My mate's Minn Kota had the exact same problem just as we commenced the ANSA Glenbawn convention in September. It turned out to be a problem with the circuit board and 2 other people I have spoken with have experienced the same problem. From what I understand, it's not restricted to the Minn Kota's themselves.

Can anyone else shed any light on this??

My RT55AP has done that twice now, it's the steering servo. Just send it back to BLA and they'll have it fixed within a week.

Hi Mark,

Borrow a pedal from someone else and see if that works. It will at least prove if the problem is with the pedal or the motor.

The same happened to me and after taking the pedal apart and holding the circuit board up to the light I could see the circuit board coroded in places. There seemed to be a small hole in the board under one of the pressure points that works the steering. Obviously the water had got in and corroded the board.

New circuit boards can be ordered (the part number is on the board) $70 US, but for $10 US more I could buy a whole new pedal.

Eventually got a new pedal via BLA $A150 or so.

I had the same problem and it was fixed by BLA under warranty .
The tech told me that they should be dropped into a bucket of water and rinsed regularly as the salt and grit are what wares the circuit board away .
I didn't realise that they were water proof.
I would almost guarentee that that is the problem especially after sein on this thread how many people have had the same problem.

That is correct.
I was shocked when i was told this but did it with mine frequently after it went .
Apparantly it is abbrasion from the grit and salt the wares out the board.
I would imagine most people would baby them and keep them away from water as i did .

I usually wash the foot pedal when I'm washing the boat.. .give it a through wash...... and then spray it with something like INOX...

The foot pedal is part of the motor and therefore covered by the warranty. Mine shat itself a couple of days ago and I dropped it in to BLA today for repairs.

I hose the crap out of mine when I wash the boat, then like Glenn I give it a good dose of Inox. It has never let me down until recently.

Sent off for warranty work, didn't realise there were so many replies to the thread.

Seems the BM e-mail notification has a glitch at the mo.

I still find it difficult to comprehend that an electrical device should be hosed out after use.

Does taking the pedal apart to clean, void any warranty?

Ozy,
The best way to look after your motor is to give it a wash down with soapy water after fishing in the salt. The ideal way to care for you foot pedal to give it a few dunks in a bucket of warm water to dissolve any salt crystals that may have formed. The electronics in the foot pedal are fully sealed so it doesn’t matter if it becomes fully submersed. You shouldn’t spray anything on the foot pedal as this will leave a sticky surface that will attract sand and dust. This will act as a cutting agent every time you press down on the foot control and eventually wear away the protective coating allowing salt water to get in and corrode the controls. The only product you need to put on the electric is petroleum jelly on the connection between the foot pedal and the motor. Hope this helps.

I have been having problems with my stearing stopping and starting which I think was the conection to the foot pedal. After the last trip I was cheacking the conection and found when I pulled it apart one of the male conection points had pulled out when I disconected it and was still stuck in the female plug.

The plug is a solid piece and can not be pulled apart to repair. I rang the shop I bought it and was told the warenty is only one year an I got mine 14 months ago. Is this true.

I think it will be easier to get the co-piolet remote control rather than repair it as I would like one anyway. I have been quoted $420 for the remote is this a good price?

My pedal is fine. The plug from the motor has had one of its pins pull out in the foot control plug. I pulled the motor apart to see if the plug and wiring can easily be replaced and found the wires are moulded into the motor and can only be removed by cutting them.

I have rung the shop I bought it again and they are going to get back to me.

yeah ow minn koto riptide does the same thing the problem is at the conection of the foot pedle to the bit u plug it in on wat we do to fix this is press right or left on the foot pedel and jigle the conection part until it starts turning and from there it should work all day
