I know I definitely wasn't around when they made this little beast so I was wondering what year it is as it doesn't say on the serial tag.
If you look at it from the outside its a bit scruffy but under the hood she is all clean. Going to give her a big once over and start her again. For the punt when i buy it. Trouty if your around you may have some info on it. |

Fuel pump. This is the way motors should be made. No wires or nothing just simple and easy to work on. Some enamel is comnig off the block, its not rust.

Hell yeah. I think its a 1960 something. Would love to know how many hours its done cos all parts are originals. I have gutted the carbie, fuel pump, and gearbox before and they are fine. It was going not long ago- in a test tank but it performed fine- no coughs splutters etc

Antique motor
Hey Brad
Looks very similar to my 6hp evinrude fisherman but the top cover and the tiller handle are a bit bigger. If you post the serial numbers up I can probably find out what year and hp rating it is for you or alternatively logon to Iboats and ask there - would probably be quicker coz thats what I would do anyway. How many blades does the propellor have? If it has 2 then turf it and get yourself one with 3 blades. The 2 bladed prop is a yacht prop used just to get you from A to B and not very quickly at that. A 3 bladed prop may get you a touch more speed and bring the engine revs down also. Regards Marc

Nath its a six too but I dont think jonnos and evins were the same back then. Not sure anyway. She is a pig of a motor but if it works then I'm happy. She does have the original twin blade prop.

Mate what a classic. I've got an old Ev 6 out the back that would be classed as an oldschooler but damn that takes the cake.

Cheers. Maybe it worth a few quid then?
Doubt it. I just hope it will have the guts to push the super punt when its built. |

To follow up on my old posts- i have sorted out that it was the 1970 model evinrude fisherman 6hp.
It has all stock factory parts apart from the spark plugs. I ran it on the 31s of December and it works fine apart from two problems. 1. It has trouble idling. I adjusted the idler and it helped a bit but notes on the internet point out that the carbie and fuel pump may be slightly gummed and to clean out both concentrating on the jets of the carbie and the lower end supply section of the fuel pump. Thats easy. 2. It didn't pump water. So today i pulled the leg off and tried to get the screws off the pump top so i could get to the impeller. They were stuck... Im going to see my uncle who knows a bit about this stuff. He also has a johnson 6hp that i will try to haggle off him as he doesnt use it- so out of the two motors im sure i can get one of them working. Anybody had experience with impellers on my old motor or similar? |

And the impeller is fine too- Never knew they were rubber and not plastic.
Anyway the gasket sealant on the water pump plates was all blown out so I pulled it apart and made another seal with loctite aviation gasket sealant- will re assemble tomorrow ant retry it then. One more thing i found on the prop, these motors dont have the torque to run a tri blade prop. Apparently they operate a twin blade as well as the new ones do a tri blade. Something about the torque level at the prop being less than at the flywheel was what i was told. I just want it to run for me tomorrow... I need to go for a fish and a motor would be handy
