LMAO
I generally like mine long so they hang nice and deep in the water.

It is nothing to do with "long and deep" in the water, Nath. By the way, your installation may cause some problems with additional drag due to the motor leg extended below the hull.
It depends on the transom height. 15" for short shaft and and 20" for long shaft and 25" for extra long leg as I recall when measured between the transom top and the lowest point of the hull (keel). When buying new, the correct leg size is selected for the given hull. When buying secondhand hull and motor separately, then it is a matter of finding a correct leg length motor for the hull. I guess it is possible to match "short leg" motor with the hull required the long leg motor and vice versa modifying the transom by lowering or extending it. Cheers, ALex |

The longer the shaft the further your head (power head) stays
out of the water, less chance of the motor getting swamped and less corosion. |
