Hi all.....

To say the fishing was difficult would be a severe understatement - simply put, 38 anglers caught 19 fish, with 27 of them getting nothing.

The weather was pretty good, a bit of wind came up later in the day but otherwise the kind of weather I like - overcast.

Of the 19 caught, I'm fairly sure 5 or so of them were caught in the last hour of the comp - I know the amount of hits I got in that last hour would probably equal the number I got during the rest of the tournament.

You could see the fish actively feeding on pylons, and if you wanted to, almost poke them with the tip of your rod.

To give you an idea of what I went through, I tried 40+ different types/colours of plastics and 10 or so different hard bodies with my only fish coming on a cut down 2" Berkely Powerbait Powergrub in Smoke/Red Glitter, with the tail dipped in Flouro Red Spike-It Crawfish scent, fished off a 1/32 Oz Round 211 Gamakatsu jig head. I was using 4lb Fireline with a 2.5m leader of 6lb Siglon Flourocarbon.

For my measly 440 gram fish, I came 7th as a boater, earning $200 dollars for the effort, and 10th overall - I'm pretty happy as it was my first B.R.E.A.M. event and a great learning experience.

Some of the big names and regulars of the B.R.E.A.M. series drew a blank, so it just goes to show you that these Bream can be a fickle species.

The comp boundaries didn't really help us too much - with the boat show going on, a lot of our 'fishable' area was taken up with pleasure boats checking out the sights.

Just to make sure the fish were still there, on the way back to the ramp after the comp, 'Mad Dog' Royter put a couple of casts into one of his spots outside the boundary areas, and promptly pulled a 30cm fish out.

The good thing was the fantastic publicity the event generated, and the weigh-ins were a big crowd pleaser - hopefully the response will provide us with more area to fish next year

On a sidenote, the gentleman in the second picture is Adam Douglas - my non-boater on day 1.

He scored a 620 gram fish to come second as a non-boater and 4th overall - well done Adam

Adam was overjoyed to catch a fish - and he certainly put the effort in and was well rewarded.

At least my livewell had 2 fish in it over the weekend

Hi Dave,

Now that you've been in one what are your thoughts on entering as a Boater or Non-boater. Although the Dockland pics you put up looked like a bit of a sh*t fight and not that big an area to try to explore.

I can't get to the Clyde but will be going to Forster and I am thinking of entering as a Non-boater to 'suss' it all out unless I don't get in and then I will have to enter as a boater.

P.S. Isn't Warimoo in the Blue Mountains , long way for your Parra River sessions

Ozy - I'd probably go the non-boater option if you're unfamiliar with the waterway, for me the lack of fishable area (although O.K.) sort of made my fishing choices a bit easier, and who knows, you may end up fishing with one of the guru's, or even me. Having said that, it's very difficult to direct your boater to where you think the fish are if he wants to do something else..... I didn't have that problem, as with no-one really catching anything, any suggestion was worthwhile

And.... I can be on the Parra, door-to-door in under an hour, Warrimoo ain't that far up the mountains

Richo - incredibly spooky mate, here's pic of the total area we fished (the boundary ended just a little to the right of the pic). I'm not that good at estimating distances, but from the bridge on the left, to the back of the dock would be no more than a kilometer, and on the Yarra itself, we were limited to be within 15m of the north bank... Hopefully the good exposure will provide us with more area next year

I dont know how many square kilometres we fished but it included 3 rivers and 2 inlets at Walpole.

Although I do know a bit of Wallis Lake from a recent trip up there I also thought of the Guru factor or even you and will use the non-boater option for this year and see about next year as a Boater. That's after I do a trial in my boat to see if it will plane with a 60lt live tank and another person or I will be upgrading the 15HP . It should be OK as it does it with a 40lt and the Permatrim helps heaps.

which diection would this be in from the allowable fishing area?

Back towards the 'Warmies' boat ramp - From memory, he also hit a side river as well.....
