Symetres/ Laguna
Hi, I'm looking at a new reel at the lower mid-range of the market and was wondering what the difference between the FH and FI Symetre is? The main other reel I'm considering is the Laguna.
Best prices on these I can find are: Symetre 1500FI- $150 Symetre 1000FH- $185 Laguna LA1500- $139 Any thoughts or comments appreciated. Cheers.

The Symetre 1500Fi (the new one) is way better than the old one as it contains SSO (super slow ossilation) and is much more "styilish" in design. It also has a maintanance port on the side. I have one and im real happy with it.
Hope that helps

LMAO
Ill have to say that the Laguna is a tops reel!I had one for a few months and it served me well, it was really tough and for the price was just as smooth (if not smoother) than my Daiwa Capricorn. Josh's Symetre is great also, the "SSO" LoL is great for when you want to work ur lures dead slow. Its nice and smooth and looks great to! The only problem i have with the Shimano range is Bail arm. I think its to flimsy compaired to the Bail arms on Daiwa's that look like a bent peice of water pipe (which is a good thing) LoL I couldnt choose from the two reels because i would need to have a decent go with the Symetre but i know that what ever one you go for you wont be dissapointed. chears, Nathan

Thanks guys. I too would love to test both of these reels before making a choice (or be rich enough to afford both!). I'm leaning towards the Daiwa only because it has a spare aluminium spool

Spare spools
The symetre fi's do come with a spare aluminium spool, it is a little different to the "main" spool but this is purely cosmetic as it is lacking the gold colouring, apart from that it is identical.

Ive recently changed over from shimano to daiwa mainly due to quality for money. The daiwas particularly the lagunas are an excellent little reel, I have three sizes, the only flaw I have come accross is the bail roller bearing seizing after only 3 months of use, AND YES I WASHDOWN AND USE INOX AFTER EVERY OUTING.
I completely strip down the roller and soak the bearing in inox every time I use it. Apart from that theyre great. |

Hey guys, forgot to mention, managed to go one better and ended up with a Capricorn. Is a sweet reel, as I'm sure Nath_18 will agree. Now to upgrade the rod..... Cheers
