I just got the Type R last week. I'm waiting for my one of my latest orders with a miller rod to arrive before I give it a test run next weekend. |

I don't like those handles. I have a Diawa reel with that kind of handle and find that I can't grip it properly.

I actually prefer that handle, I can grip it fine and I fin it easier to be able to flod it away when storing it on the boat.
Why can't you grip it?

Yes machined aluminum handles are arguably more handsome in design, but the breakaway handle is built for functionality and can instantly fold over for more compact storage(which I prefer) and the daiwa has done an excellent job on the TYPE R in designing a breakaway handle that folds neatly away but still feels completely solid when being utilized.
When you play with this reel you will note it provide great performance in both cast and drag tests(better than luvias, certate and stella(I think)). You will be surprised how silky smooth and compact this reel feels. |

It's just too small Swoffa. I like something a bit more meaty for when you get something really decent on.

Each to his own mate. I've caught jewies to 10kg and some decent kingies on my Luvias 1500/2004's and never had a problem.
