bream on big hard bodies

does the size of the lure matter that much on the flats, cas the bream on the flats seem 2 be heaps agressive. just wondering how big is the biggest hardbody lure u have caught a bream on?
in summer me and my friend were fishin the south perth flats, and he was using a big 12cm minnow, for flatties, but instead it got nailed by a bream is this a common thing or just a fluke?
