Eating stingray

During the week, i was camping one nite east of albany, near 2 peoples bay and a guy caught an small-medium eagle ray on the beach...

He ended up killing it and taking the wings...

Later that nite, he offered it to me as there was sooo much meat left. Thought i would try some as it would be pretty bad to let it go to waste. Anyway, it tasted pretty good..

He also said there was a local who keeps them and sells them to the restraunts who use them in their dishes as mussles or scallops

Just wonderign if any of you have tried DohDohDohDoh? And what ure thoughts are on this

I know i would NEVER kill a ray, i love them!!!!

Scott

Its a fairly common rip off in some seafood restaurants to sell ray flap meat as scallop meat, some even going to the trouble of putting some gelatin orange junk in the meat but most don't even bother.

Years ago in Botany Bay a lot of the old blokes used to cut the flaps of and boil it up as a protein meat meal for chickens, what a waste of a poor old sting ray.

Just let 'em go, I like 'em too

The seafood bites and crab sticks that most shops sell are not even from the ocean, truth be told. They are in fact TRIPE that has been processed and coloured and flavoured to be sold as seafood. Sorta brings a whole new view on what we actually eat huh??

For those of you that might not know what tripe is ask your grandmother as it was a very common meal back in the depression years.

Tony.

Gotta admit... Stingray tastes great

But.. I haven't taken one for ages, I think they're better off in the sea/estuary cleaning up the bottom - god knows some need it
