Ok confused
Ok my avatar shows my catch on a 150 Diawa
I've downsized used a 1000 Diawa or a 750 Shimano Tackle shop that sold me one was oh no you shouldn't use those sizes with hardbodies or soft plastics . Yep used both on both and landed fish . And watched one of ETs shows and yep he's using a 1000 to catch Bass So what the heck if it works it works right

It's a bit hard oh you can't use 1000 or 750 you need a 2500
Yet I've caught bream salmon trout and whiting on hard bodies and soft plastics Using a 1000 or 750 And then ET is on Foxtel using and saying for estuary fishing go light use a 1000 Sorry it's funny getting sold a 1000 reel tell them I want that size to use lures yep the following year oh no you can't use that lol

My bream reels are 2000 and 2500. But I chase bigger stuff with them aswell. So I need the increased spool capacity and stronger drags There is also a theory that larger diameter spools cast further, which is what got me looking at 2500 size in the first place. But small reels may have a more sensitive drag and be lighter. So you just have to weigh everything up and make a choice based on your requirements But a 2500 reel with a couple of spare spools is a very versatile tool - I run 3lb, 8lb and 14lb on my stradic 2500 and it handles all those line classes well. |

Have caught 5/6kg snapper on a 1000 size reel. A 2500 is also so bloody light that casting fatigue is a non issue. Anyone who's arms get sore from a 2500 reel needs more protein in their diet 😐
Use whatever suits you. You can use lures of any kind on any spin reel. They all carry more braid than you need too. Just be aware that running a 1000 on heavy drag to tame big fish will stress it quicker. |

![]() In your case, it sounds like a bigger reel would just be heavier, take more line to fill and may have a stickier drag. |

I've also rigged up spin fluorocarbon 4 lb not easy to use SPs but you can lol Mullieways on 6 lb was fun not huge fish largest 40 cm Bigger one I learnt what they do on lures Thanks all I guess for me small light works better . I ain't a small man I lift products that weigh 12.5 kilos most of a work day most in a row 32 times so 2500 reel ain't heavy

His show does make him look and sound silly. Personally I have fished with him and he is a great guy with heaps of talent.
