poly 4.1
Ordering a new poly 4.1 tiller steer and would like some advice from poly owners about what extras i should order.
At this stage the only extras that are feasible are carpet and rear seat. Are the boats easliy modified later on so i can fit out when funds are more available. Ps; what are the options for rear seat arrangement and possibly a front seat (not casting). Also what do you guys do about rod holders and rod storage as i frequently have mulloway fever. Cheers |

gotherat, you are probably better off just getting the bare hull and doing the extras yourself. i think the carpet that comes std from the factory is only on the deck, not on the casting deck.
i rear seat maybe handy although that limits your back casting deck. polys are pretty easy to modify, you can add extra storage compartments/ rod lockers etc by making it out of ply. check out www.ausfish.com.au forums. there are quite a few ppl on that site that have fitted out their 410s themselves. good to get different ideas. another thing i would do is if you are planing to put an electric motor on the front make sure they dont fit the bow rail. id also get an extra lid for the middle storage compartment at the back. i dont think these come std in an open boat and it leave quite a big hole for someone standing on the back deck to fall down.

Thanks, i will check it out.
In regard to the area around engine would you just fit some ply. Ps Is it difficult to lay the carpet yourself, ie glue holding on the plastic Cheers |

Im sure you could do it with ply but its probably easier given they already have lids designed to fit in there. only problem is you will have to cut them to fit around the outboard.
i didnt carpet my hull myself but it only cost me about $250 to get done, money well spent. |

gotherat,
I fitted out my poly myself and am very happy with the results. I use removable seats and bases, one next to the motor and one up front for casting. Carpeting was not very difficult, i glued the carpet down on the front and rear deck and used some screws for the carpet in the bottom so it can be easily removed to acces the bilge and replacing if needed. I made up a back piece from ply to fit over the open section near the motor. It works fin however a pre made section would be better. I wasnt aware you could get them. I have also added an extended deck with 2 large hatches. This is were i store all my tackle boxes and bags ect. I also have my battery here. I have also put in som horitontal rod holders inside the extra section. It fits 2 piece rods fine. I installed a bowmount electric aswell. I just cut out a small section of the bowrail and had it re welded and polished. It cam up sweet and gives you something to hand onto when loading the boat on the trailer. Im very happy with the poly and it is very easy to work on. The boat is fantastic for bream fishing Ive been really slack and havnt taken any photos yet, i will try and make some time on the weekend and post them. Cheers Chris |

Bruce,
ive taken my poly out the heads at walpole across the bar, handled the swell not worries esp considering its a v nose punt. the only swell that ive enountered in perth would be the rotto ferries wake and going over that at 25kts it handled extremely well (i thought) for a punt. ask bear he was in the boat with me ![]() i dont think the swell is really the problem though. what you are really looking for in a boat like this is the way it handles chop. when the wind blows up and you are crossing melville waters or inlets such as walpole there is no other boat (that size) id rather be in. |

Thanks Evan, I've got a 4.2 dory widebody at the moment and have been considering updating it to a polly.probably 4.55 as i go out fishing as well as bream fishing and up north at steep point and out around dirk hartog isl and of the 80 mile beach so it has to handle swell and chop and still go up the tidel creeks 4 barra and muddies etc
