Ultra light reel- Which one!
Hi guys
I have a 7'3" Majorcraft 1-5lb rod that will be used for throwing small lures and plastics. Any suggestions of a spinning reel to suit would be appreciated. Shimano or Diawa, price not a major consideration. Last edited by sporty1; 26-07-2015 at 08:57 PM. Reason: Extra info |

Then you can review it and let us all know if its any good. |

I have a 7' custom rod 1 - 3 kg and have rotated a few reels on it - Caldia, Rarenium, Certate and Sustain. Of those I liked the Certate 2004. It is heavier than most of the others but I liked that, the fact that it did not feel "loose" in any way and the line lay is very precise.

I'd go a luvias 2004, nice and light and great quality reel. You may pick one up on special as they run them out for the new model.

1000 stradic or Rarenium ci4+, no real difference in quality just gear ratio, Rarenium is a bit slower.
Sustain is a ripper of a reel also but the other 2 are lighter in weight. Best bet would be to take the rod into the local and try some different reels on it and see which one balances the best. Last edited by Juzza; 29-07-2015 at 04:12 AM. |

My stradic 1000 Ci4+ weighs in at 169g spooled up and I find it balances well with a rod weighing in at about 80grams and 6'6. I have a stradic 1000fj (211g) on my 7' rod that weighs in at about 100g. I guess it also depends on where about the reel seat is on the rod so definitely worth trying a few out in a shop to see what feels best.
