The reel weight thread...
So it occurred to me that there doesn't seem to be a thread where there are a culmination of reel weights.
I have taken a picture of my most used reels and thrown them on a digital kitchen scale and weighed them for everyone here to see or use in their quest to gauge reels and how heavy they are. Now I am a pretty heavy set bloke, weight isnt a issue for me at all but some of the lycra clad weight weenies may find these pictures interesting in comparison to what your using or have(?). Some reels have had their handle knobs swapped out and some reels have differing amounts of braid v backing (inc different backing etc). Some reels have varying amounts of bearings (added) and other inconsistencies however should be exact / similar to a reel that you may have or going to buy - bar a few grams or there abouts? **As Nagz mentions the weights are on the Mfg's websites - however its been known that these are either wrong or just plain stupid... These weights are just here to show what they weigh with line and some minor changes. A dry reel straight out of the box will weight less for sure, but add line and a couple of extras and that can add some extra weights etc. Each picture will have an accompanying blurb about the reel line and whatever has been done. Hoping that some people here with a set of digital scales could add their own reels (differing manufacturer types or styles) to this thread so that we could get a library of weights going to help others here... P.s. the weights of the hair ties do not even register... ** resize your pictures to 600 x 800 so they display on the replies** Thanks - Andrew Shimano Stradic 1000FJ.JPG Shimano Stradic 1000FJ - 2lb Fireline Exceed 125 yards with backing - Avail POM knob and 4 bearings added. Shimano Stradic 2500FJ.JPG Shimano Stradic 2500FJ - 8lb Fireline Exceed 125 yards with backing - Avail POM knob and 4 bearings added. These are real weights not stated ha ha - you know Shimano and their claims. Also some extra weights with line loaded and other things etc. Just helps others with weights etc?

Does everyone have a preferred weight for reels?
I like my reels to be In the 190-210g range. I'll weigh my reels later on today once I've sorted them out.

I have to be honest, I love heavier reels. This may be because I use sub $200 two piece rods though.

Time for some reels from the daiwa stables.
Start off with a cheaper reel. Daiwa legalis 2000 spooled with 75m of 10lb super PE (with backing) Pretty heavy!

Abu Garcia revo premier 20.
Weight is really noticeable in this reel, I thought it would be around the 280 mark.

Good thread mate. I'll have a crack at a few reels when I get time, although the boss gets a bit angry when I use her kitchen scales for this sort of stuff!!!

Daiwa steez 2508 with heaps of backing and 40ish meters of shore game pe 0.8.
I use this for LB jetties and stuff so I don't need a lot of line (not casting, just tea bagging)

Thanks mate, get a plastic plate put it onto the scale and zero the weight and then stick the reel on the plate and weigh it. The scale will show the weight of the reel minus the weight of the plate. I have my own digital weight so there is no problems there... Just when others want to use the scale for cooking that gets up my goat!
