Motor Change

I am looking at fishing The Eco gear comp here in brisbane and we are looking at putting my mates 25hp two stroke on my 3.75m Stessco hull as I only have a 15hp four stroke and min required for the comp is 20hp.

Will putting my mates 25hp 2 stroke on for the comp affect insurance or registration for the comp or will it be fine?

Any comments would be great.

Cheers
Captain

Hi Captain
Is the hull rated to take a 25hp? if its no then you might have some trouble with insurance.

Surely a hull that size would be rated for a 25hp. Probably up to 40.........................

Yes the hull is rated to 25hp and weight isn't a problem.
I just need to know wheather these changes would affect registration or insurance or is this just based on the hull it's self.

But thanks for the questions any hep would be great.
Really hoping Trouty might take a look or anyone who is very informed on these matters. I don't want to anything that might be illegal here.

Cheers

Best bet is to give your insurance mob a call and run it past them. Make sure you get the persons name, time and all details of the discussion just in case something does happen and they start dodging the claim - "it will never happen" - famous last words.

Also ring the boat rego mob and tell them you are "modifying" the setup, as this could affect third party claims if you don't inform them. Not sure how your boat registration works in Qld so you need to check out how the change in engine/HP will affect anything the registration covers you for eg third party liability.

Hope this helps

If I remember rightly, your insurance is costed on the value of your kit. To get this value you list std items including the engine.

I think you'll have to ring the insurer and make sure it does not effect cost and replacement value.

Bit like changing the engine in your car.

An engine change may void the insurance. Better to be safe than sorry.

Good advice from Trouty and Bear but still run it past Insurer and Registration mob. In WA engine is specified on rego papers.
