Shimano Reels

Gday Everyone

Just Purchased a Gen Black Wicked Weasel and was going to put Stradic Ci4+ reel , I noticed you can buy a Sustain 2500 from an Aus Distributor for $249 cheaper than the Stradic Ci4+ , Does anyone have any other thoughts or Ideas as to what would go with this Rod

Buddy the best thing is everyone likes certain things. The best thing you can do is go to a tackle store and try it on.Feel the reel and make judgement on that.
I have the CI4+ and its a great reel.

Have a look at the new Rareium while your at it,they are a definite upgrade from the previous model (Xship etc) and one of the few Shimanos in Aus with the 5.0 ratio which imo is better for HB fishing ,if you fish a lot of placcies then go the ci4 in the 3000 at only .7 g heavier than the 2500.

cheers nereus

Cool, Everyone

Thanks for the replies , will investigate both reels , I was under the impression the Sustain was a couple of levels above the CI4+ , but have since found a thread on this site , with the advantages and disadvantages of both .

Sustain has an extra bearing under the spool (better drag) and is not ultra lightweight like the ci4+. Gen black weren't too light when I tried in store so you might find the sustain balances better. Go to a store and try both reels on your model and buy the one that feels balanced. Both good reels.

Sustain and CI4+ both great reels. Had a play with the new Rarenium and they also feel nice.

Gday Sean H ,

Good thought , i will have to go and try them on the weasel , trouble is we only have Bee Cee F here which are $70 dearer than competitors for the Sustain . so trying one on is difficult. I have just had a quick look at the Rarenium and it looks the goods and is not much heavier than the Ci4+ .

Would feel funny taking in the rod (which i didn't purchase from them) trying a heap of reels on it and buying the reel elsewhere also .

You're not wrong there about the mark up. Why not just order online. Sustains seem to be going cheap these days. I have three of them and cant fault them.

if your prepared to buy online then look at the Shimano Complex CI4+ 2500HGSF6 Cardiff CI4+ C2000HGS & Exsence CI4+ C3000HGM all under $300AU delivered. Just a 4-8 day wait. All under 200g, 9+1 bearings incl. 1 in the spool. Take the plunge and you will never buy another AU reel again.

+1 to this. I bought a Complex Ci4 2500SF4 off Rakuten a while back and so glad I did. Shallow spool means no backing required and the bodies are the same as the Ci4+ and the Rarenium so parts are available in Australia.

Hello Everyone

Just a quick update and to thank Kazu from Japan angler, I purchased a Shimano Exsence 3000 last week. The service Blew me away, The Reel was Paid for Friday AM and sent Friday PM the 14th November.

I had the reel in my hand lunchtime today 17th Nov.In Bathurst NSW

Wow, what awesome service, I tracked the reel the whole time and knew exactly where it was , Kazu was in contact with me the whole time to let me know what was happening.

I would recommend Japan Angler to anyone.
