Daiwa Sol II or Shimano Sustain

Looking at getting 2 bigger reels for light spinning/jigging/plastics on the local reefs. Currently use Thunnus, Stradic 5000 and Sustain 2500 for the light offshore.

Does anyone have a better than the other perspective of these 2 reels? I've picked these 2 as they come in around the same price.

Shimano Sustain 4000 and 5000
Daiwa Sol II 3000H and 4000H

My main query is which will withstand salt water best and which has the better factory drag.

thanks

Sol will probably handle spray etc best with magseal but you're a slave to Daiwa servicing every time something needs looking at. That's 80 bucks for a service by the time u post it. A third of the reels cost and 5-6 weeks without it at best.

Go the sustain i reckon and give it a service yourself a few times a year. I like Daiwas range a thousand times better but find myself moving toward Shimano

I guess we all have different experiences with the equipment we purchase. I find myself doing the opposite to chopperdog as I have been let down frequently in the last few years with the quality of Shimano gear. Their Stella's are fine but less than that has resulted in grief for me. Sustain / Biomaster; I have had them both and at the moment in the process of drifting toward Daiwa despite their slow and expensive service reputation. In my opinion Daiwa simply make a better quality product at similar price points. So my 2 cents worth is to go with Daiwa. I have had the 4000 SOL II on my boat since their release with no hint of problems.

I had the sol 2 wrecked the gearing. got sent away and they replace the gears with freams gears. Was never the same, I dont have any confidence in them (sol 2) anymore.
Just bought a sustain 4000fg hopefully this will be better.

I use a sol2 3000 find it a good reel no problems with it.
Don't let the Magseal put you off servicing it yourself it can still be done without any problems.
