Shimano Reel specs issue
I know there are a lot of people here that are quite cluey with Shimano reels so here is a question I am wondering you can answer.
The shimano catalogue and website for Australia lists a few reels with different weights and even drag capacities between their model sizes an example being the Sustain 2500 being heavier (260g) than the 3000 (219g. I compared it with the USA website specs for the sustain 2500 and 3000 and their weights and drag are on par with each other there. Are the specs accurate or has someone stuffed up the spec sheets in Australia? |

The aussie shimano website is not well maintained. Specs are all over the place. I usually go to the US site for spec. From memory, sustain 3000 is only a tad heavier than 2500.

The issue is that the Australian 2014 print catalogue also has the same specs as the website. They really should get their information straight.

the sustain box says 235g. Catalogue says 260g. Would it be too hard for someone to just put these reels on a scale before they send out 100,000 catalogues.
I'm pretty certain the 2500 and 3000 of any of the models would come in, give or take around 3 grams difference. The 3000's are a 2500 with a narrower shaving of the spool for more line capacity. Which in turn means it will get a few extra grams back on the extra line. ie. 2500 with 200m of 15lb v's 3000 with 300m of 15lb. Shimano AU catalogues are shocking. I think they still even have the Thunnus 4+1 for the bearings where they are and have always been 6+1. The retrieve per crank rate on the 3000FG is a healthy 260cm according to my catalogue. |

They didnt like me catching them out with pics on their face book page, the replies were dry and it got to the point of no replies in the end... Shimano Murica was a good option with quick answers given to my questions - top marks to them!
All good saying "$himano is da bessst" from some raving brand fixated idiot, but as soon as you start questioning them it all goes pear shaped in a down hill curry express. Hope some people understand that "some" social media outlets like facebook have people manning company accounts that are paid to do it and have no actual affiliations or ties to the company or real knowledge of the product their representing. This hence why you may either get no response at all to all the tech questions like mine or those asking for tips or rod matching questions for reels as a lot ask (these go unanswered all the time), or you may get a response to call the office or contact someone else as the person on the page is but a mere paid representative puppet. They get told to do pretty stuff like wording and pictures set out by some honcho in a chair from marketing no doubt, I could be wrong? pThis because a mate of mine does it for a job and gets paid well to do sweet fa really. |

My post got a reply and they said the weights are accurate. The shimano US site has them listed exactly the same. Either way one day it will come to bite them on the ass.
