filling up shimano ultegra 1000 reel

i just got a shimano ultegra 1000 reel, and wanna fill it up with 8lb braid, but i only have 100m of it. that won:t be enough 2 fill it up to the brim of the reel. I heard that if u dont fill the reel right up 2 the brim, the braided line slips or something like that. so should i put some exta backing line on the reel b4 the braid, so my reel is filled right up?

wouldn't you want abit of mono backing using braid and gelspun in the first place to prevent slipping?

you have to put on backing otherwise you will crack ure reel and it will slip and stuff
just see how much the reel hold and then just put enough baking so that when u put on ure braid it will be full to tha bream

It is recommended that you load 1/3rd of your reel with monfiliment and then join to braig with uni knot and then fill with braid leaving 1/8th inch from edge of spool.

Smack me if I am stating the bleeding obvious but a trick I learnt a while ago to correctly fill the reel is as follows - assuming of course you have a spare spool..................
Tape the start of your fireline to your reel with it fitted to the rod, with the roll of new line laying on the floor label side up, proceed to wind all the fireline to your reel. When you get to the end, join your mono backing line onto the fireline & continue loading until the desired capacity is reached.....now cut the mono.
Now switch spools on the reel, put the previously loaded spool on the floor & transfer the line to the reel as before. You will finish up with the exact amount of line on your spool.
Regards
Neil

Yeah I agree, smack Neil for going the long way around the garden path to get to the gate. Why wind it on twice and go through double handling, seems pointless to me. Do it once and do it right.

Regards
Ray
