Dude thats disturbing. Spearfishing just aint cricket

But then again it is a mighty feat for a human to conquer such an animal of that size, especially in its own territory (in water).

Its not much different from hunting animals, but hey I find it disturbing anyway

Yeah Dudes ( I like that ) I find it all a bit disturbing as well.
There hosting the NSW Spearfishing Championships at Mollymook near where I live in a few weeks.

I reckon catch & release is a bit hard to practice ! Maybe they use rubber pointed spear tips

I suppose each to his own, as long as they don't tally up cricket match sized scores of dead fish.

That's not fishing, that's butchery.

Sorry guys, but this is just not sport or anything to me. Especially with a Tuna that big. Wonder what happened to the meat.

I reckon a better challenge would be to get close enough to tag the fish. Now that would be a great effort.

Hi Everyone

Nailing a tuna that size is a reciepe for disaster as a tuna doesnt have a swimming bladder. That is a tuna can swim straight up, down, left right no problems (this is why tuna dont stop swimming and high metabolic rate).

That tuna could of taken that spearfisherman right to the bottom if the fish decided. Tuna move at a great rate of knots think its somethin in the order of 60 to 70% of their weight is muscle.

I thinki will stick to flies, lures and plastics

Cheers
Stuie

Be better if the fish dragged him around the ocean with a spear hanging out of him. That would be good to see.

BUT, imagine hooking that fish on 4lb fireline spin gear. Waterskiing here we come!!!

gday guys
that would be funny to see .
soory to birng up the subject but i thought that the tuna was huge to be taken on a spear another catcjh was a striped marlin .
i personally think that it is pretty bad to cathc such a big fish on a spear and there is no way to release.
i spose in some of the comps that people fish with 8 kg line and they catch some nice tuna and end up not realeasing the fish because the fish is too exausted from the fight to swim away.
thanks michael

I'm amazed they got away without any sharks coming to say "hello", maybe they shot them too.
I had a mate that used to go spearfeashing off the seal rocks at Phillip Island. Given the population of great whites in the area I thought he was a total moron.

Hehe your exactly right about the sharks. CLick on the link I had a read of the story, they say usually the sharks are there swimming around them at a great distance. One however came and kept coming, so the diver was forced to shoot him point black in the head.
