Stella Reels

Just wondering for those lucky enough to own both,
are the Stella reels that much better than the Stradic reels?
I know there is a huge price difference, just interested if it is worth
paying the extra dollars?

Is a Ferrari worth the extra money compared to a commodore?

Hi Harte, the short answer is absolutely yes. However, in my opinion if one has never used a mid tier reel such as the Stradic (be it the Ci4, FJ, Ci4+), he/she probably will not really appreciate the step up of a Stella.

But hey, if you have the money and love lure fishing, get a Stella and get a cheap reel at the same time, use the cheap one for a trip then switch to the Stella, hopefully you will feel the extra money was well spent

Of course they are so much better than a Stradic. But for me and many others it is hard to justify spending that much money on a reel that is only used occasionally. As my reels only get used a couple of times a month I cannot justify it. If I was out using it every other day I would probably buy one. They should outlast a Stradic, outperform a Stradic, feel nicer to use & look more awesome (opinions vary). If I was to go out chasing Yellowfin Tuna on threadline reels I would want to be using a Stella as it has the best chance of not failing under pressure but I don't do that either.
For me catching Bass, Bream, Flathead etc on my gear I am happy with the quality of a Stradic & I would rather buy 3 Stradics over 1 Stella. But if I was to be lucky enough to win one someday I would be a very happy guy.

Thanks Guys,
I have four Stradic reels and a heap of Calcutta's, just really like the Stella!
Trying to convince myself I don't really need one

Same reel, just different quality components. Stradic won't last as long on big fish thou

like you I tried convincing myself not to get one for a long time. Got one, best reel ever in every single way. Stopped using it because it became too much babying it all the time. Since selling it I would never get another one. But yes they are that much better. I think investing as much as possible into the rod out weighs investing as much as possible into the reel.

Yes they definitely are, as said above the rod is more important but it nice to wind a stella on the seat of a top quality rod

Talking

I had wanted a 2500 for ages ... so i bought one then sold it 3 weeks later on here for half price... i hated it ..

Yes it was smooth and tight . But for a big plastics fisho , that 6.2 gear ratio pissed me off so much that after one hour it went back in the box ..

I should have bought the 5.7 ratio model from plat but i made a mistake..

I like 4.7 ratio myself .

I just bought a stella sw 5000 and yes its 6.2 and annoys me but i will be using it for high speed spinning so can tolerate it.
