Pretty much any minnow type bream lure will work. A few of my favs are Pontoon21 CrackJacks , Sx 40's and 43's,River2Sea Baby vibes, Halco scorps and Cranka Shads just to name a few... More natural colours like a Rainbow Trout pattern tend to do quite well.
Hope this helps a bit mate

I am heading down to Harvey dam in a few weeks time to have my first go at catching trout.

I read Sextons response to lures which was a great help. Thanks
What I was also wondering though, is what depth the lures need to dive to? If at all.

But what sort of leader and line should I be fishing. I have 3, 5 and 6 lb leader and have 4lb mono on my reel. Should I be fishing lighter or heavier?

What sort of habitat do the trout like? Are they like bream and like some structure or it doesnt matter?

Thanks for the help.

Di

Doesn't any one want to help a girl out in trying to catch some trout for the first time?

Hopefully give you a better idea after tomorrow, but if the water is amongst the grass the trout love going in looking for insects. I would start at 6lb leader and only go down if the bite is really off. First thing in the morning or last thing in the day is beast time unless you have a yak or dinghy and can troll the deeper water. Jig around the dead trees for reddies as well. Great fish to eat.

Thanks Bear.
Your info is a great help.

I wont be landbased as I have the yak so I will make sure I take some deep diving lures as well.
