Squid Jigs What to buy?
After a few suggestions as to what squid jigs I should be loading up on! Will be starting to hit the squid soon in preparation for the snapper season, so what is everyone's favourites at the moment and what colour have you been doing damage with?

I find that the black and the white shimano egi jig works extremely well they both have a blue UV light which works better than a glowing one in my opinion
Cheers micah

Harimitsu, I've been using them for a few years now and I love them!
Fantastic range of colours, well made, excellent sink rate and angle. I suggest buying your jigs from Japan as you'll save a lot of money, have access to more manufacturers and sometimes colours that aren't sold in Australia. I get my Harimitsu's for $9-$10 each, a lot better than the $25-$40 here.

Hey mate where do you intend on squid fishing? If in the bay 3.0's will help depends on what depth you fish.On average a 3.0 jig will sing at about 3.0 sec/m so something in 2 mts of water a 2,5 is much better with something that drops at 5 sec.m
Id go the Gancraft in 3.0;s the drop nicely the natural colors are great. And the Yamashita 2.5's tried and true. Here in Qld i use Naorys which drop at 9-11 sec/m again brights to glow for morning and low light and gold and silvers in sun up clear water. If you want more details message me mate |

The shimano 14T (white) and 31T (green) work well for me if buying local. Otherwise I highly recommend buying from Japan. Harimitsu, Duo, Yo Zuri and Megabass all under $10. Get a few of each size (2.5, 3.0 and 3.5) to cover all depths and currents and a mix of colours and youll be covered in ink in no time.

The really old yo zuris work best imo, beaten and hacked up is best.
I often see guys displaying their squid jig collections...never looked like they have ever caught a squid. Flea bay can be good. |

Figure out the depth of water you will be targeting them in. The top brands such as yamashita, yozuri, hiramatsu, breaden and daiwa all have sink rates and work out what size to have more of.
It's best to have a range of sizes from 2.5-3.5. Anything larger isn't really necessary. Colour wise, a range of naturals and bright colours. My go to would have to be yamashita lives, breaden and daiwa. And I just use what colours suit the conditions. Be mindful as Eging is as addictive as breaming. |

Hey mate there is a colour chart on the web. Will just have to google it. Don't be tricked by all the pritty colours on the mesh. Just go with gold red or clear coloured bodies. The the colour chart explains it all. Has worked for me for yrs.
