I've got a daiwa t3 limited edition. I've had many baitcasters previously and am thoroughly impressed with the t wing system. Possibly one of these or one of the variants if ur ok with buying from Japan. Ive got no problem casting a range of weights from 5 gms to 20 gms on mine. I'd expect one of the other models such as the t3 mx would be even better and well within ur budget. Either that or if possible to stretch the budget a bit have a look at the Abu revo premiers which can be had for around the 370 mark new from tacklestores

This is a bargain at the moment:

These are a stunning reel, depending on what capacity you are after.

Also the t3 have the 3d magforce cast control system which would be very good for someone learning how to use a baitcaster

Jase, I have 2, an old Chronarch 50mg & earlier model Pflueger Patriarch, both are great to learn & manage the birds nests. I have also had a curado 300e, all are good with out too much technology.

the chronarch is great fun on any fish! light and easy to set the counter balance. Curado was heavier and robust. pflueger is good for the price and never had any issues with it, chase snapper & salmon on it regularly.

I've got a couple of Alphas Typer-R's and Pixy's and they are great for light work.

I seriously like the look of the tatula, should be good value for money there. Also as said above the T3 would be hard to beat!

Quantum Smoke got some good reviews, and cheap, compared to some mentioned.
Here's a slightly shop soiled one for $200. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111145008...d=111145008555

Whatever you get, don't get a cheap nasty reel, or you'll hate it.
A cheap spin reel will be heavy and have a crap drag, but at least you can cast it. A cheap BC...

A good solid reel. Perfect as a jack/jewie reel but you may struggle if you we're wanting to cast lighter weights at all

Fresh and saltwater application is still pretty general. What sort of fish did you want to target and what sort of lures would you be throwing?

t3 = easiest thing youll cast. get it and look like a pro.

but dont get the ballistic (or the limited red and yellow ones) far better off getting an mx if your wanting to stay under 3 bones

love my t3's and will be getting more!
