Estuary GT lures

Hi fellas,
I'll be fishing light for smallish estuary GT with 6lb braid, 1-3kg vapour and my 2004CH.
What lures are good for this style?
Cheers

I've only really caught them as by-catch but blades seem to work well

I've used Rapala Skitter pops for this exact thing. Fish where only up to max. 3kg though.

I think you're gonna loose a few lures... There's plenty of fish up there a lot bigger and angrier than bream that will turn up anywhere. I'd say stick to plastics, little flick baits like the squidies, keitechs and zmans. Zman grubs seem to be pinning a few nice trevs lately too so a few of them won't hurt either

Pontoon 21 Greedy guts 66 MDR in crash Wakasagi would be my pick for a HB.

Damiki D-Pop 70 in crystal for the popper.

And you can't go past plastics. Damiki Armour shads and D-grubs would be my pick.

Pack some heavier leader as you will be smoked by more than a few on the light stuff!

Have fun and I look forward to seeing the report!

Thanks for that! I'll do a lure order before I go, I've got some different size Sebile Splashers which I'll give a swim as well.
What leader size would be good to start with?
Cheers

Hey mate, GTs are seriously aggressive fish, so work your lure erratic with short pauses. I also find the smaller GTs don't try and bust you off, but don't give them to much lee way or they will inevitably wrap you around something.

Been absolutely delaying it with damiki shrimps of late, motor oil red and skin blue being the best as they stand out way more on dirty estuary water.

I use 8lb leader and it does the job nicely, only been busted off once by a GT on 8 and it nice and strong, my mate landed a 70cm queenie as by-catch on 4lb braid and 8lb leader two days ago, don't be afraid to put some hurt on its a lot stronger then you think. I did the same with a sub 60 queenie

All the best though mate, if you can get them to hit surface, chuck Dpops around my favorite trevally lure and loco perritos 65 on glass off days. Hard and aggressive, they are such an awesome fish

Thanks for that. good info
I'll definatly be getting some of the damiki shrimps, they look good for anything. The parents said they'll shout me a $200 lure order specially for the trip so I'll get the others as well what colours do you like for surface?
Cheers

I have found the little GTs are also partial to small bucktail jigs. They are cheap, cast well, are easy to cast, and are simple to tie up on your preferred jigheads if you can't find them in the shops.

Cheers,
Simon
