G Loomis SR842-2 glx - What blank are used on these rods????
Hey guys , Im looking at buying a Loomis SR842-2 glx for breaming but recently i have been thrown a Curve ball , I was talking to someone about this rod and they told me it is actually made with a American Tackle Company Blank not an actual Loomis Blank , Can anyone that knows obviously more then i do about this fill me in with answers please?
If it is a ATC Blank and not a Loomis Blank would it be worth buying still ? Cheers in advance... Jase.. |

I highly doubt it, if its a Loomis GLX its going to be a Loomis blank, thats why people buy the things is for the good blank. I am pretty sure the only other company that has the technology to make similar blanks is North Fork, so no if it does have an ATC Blank (highly doubt it) I wouldnt buy one.

This should answer your question better than anything:

Definitely a 1000 mate, maybe a ci4 2500 but it will seem a bit big and awkward.
Mine was with a stella 1000 it was a dream combo. |

Definitely a 1000 size Shimano if you must. Otherwise a 2000 Daiwa (preferably a SOL

As the others said a 1000 is a much better fit for this rod. I've got a Soare on mine and I love it. Prefer it to the TSR 862 I have.

Close in to structure I use a 1000 Daiwa. Over the flats I up to a 2000 Daiwa. It is all about the lighter overall weight for me. Each to their own ... but a very nice rod to use. Good luck with your decision Jase. Regards, HBt.

thanks for all your replies guys , im definitely gonna buy the loomis , now with reels , Im a bit iffy about 1000 size reels , they feel like a toy and hold bugger all line , im landbased at the moment so that could be an issue , could i pull it off with a 2500 ci4 or something else other then a 1000
Alex - Not sure i can go to the dark side mate, love my shimanos |

You could always import a 2000 size shimano from Japan mate..
Food for thought. They do Jdm twinpower reels. |

Jase, contrary to what most in here are saying, I would go a 2506 reel, or at smallest a 2000 Daiwa. I've Owned the rod and know 4 others who have hem and they too put 25xx size reels on it, however they are exists so ultra light. They balance perfectly and don't seem out of place.
I also dislike 1000 size reels, but that's neither here or there

hmmmm hard choice, i use a 2500 ci4 on my nordic stage sharp shooter and that thing is crazy light , whats the weight of the loomis?
Reel weight for 1000 ci4 = 176 gram 2500 ci4 = 198 gram 1000 rarenium - 170 gram 2500 rarenium - 200 gram just wondering a whole 30 grams is gonna make much difference ? Last edited by jgarner447; 04-06-2013 at 01:36 AM. |
