Why do you fish?

Probably been done before but with all the politics going on atm with who copied who and blah blah blah i'd like to get back to basics.

Why do you fish? Why do you enter comps if you do? and why do you choose to be field staff or sponsored if you are and what do you get out of it?

Question directed at everyone comp anglers and non comp anglers alike.

The savage strike of a cranky bass or a pissed off jack, the screaming runs of a truck bream on 3lb fluro accross 2ft deep flats, the thumping headshakes of a nice flatty or snapper and the brutal surface strike of a big cod in the dim morning light and the places I get to go and see to find them.

That's why I fish

Fishing is a great mix of relaxation, challenges, back to nature, highs and lows.
Also adrenalin thrown in for good measure when you hook that beast!

Simply put but it sums it up for me

Good topic Steve....

I fish for the challenge, and as an outlet from work..Usually when i fish the phone goes in the underfloor storage, and doesnt come out till the way home

Would love to get back into a few comps, as it is an excuse to get to some of the best estuaries gong around, and meet some great anglers and peers..

No sponsorship for me, but i love fishing with and lures. I also believe that have the best poloroids on the market. My rods of choice are ..

Stress relief

Well done Steve on a great topic once I flick that lure the stress just drains
Away.Fishing new places getting the kyak into some tight snags watching a
Bow wave behind my lure before it gets smashed by a big bream.Walking the
Flats, getting the boat out fishing with the family that's what fishings all about.

Cheers Shane

I fish, because fishing is what I do. I've done it since I was a weee lad and will continue to do into the future.

The feeling of the sun and wind on your face as you push that throttle forward, trim the motor out a little, sit back and watch the world race past.

That perfectly weighted and controlled cast tight into the zone, a few twitches to get the lure down, a pause and some controlled slack, a few slow turns of the handle...the line tightens and suddenly the world stops.

Head shakes, drag peeling runs, deft rod work, quick thinking boat manoeuvring, clear thoughts and nervous moments....grab the net and slip it into the water.

Silver flanks and yellow fins, dirty backs and wide shoulders, big blacks and feisty yellows.

No time to sit there and think about how fun this all is, it's a matter of priority to check leaders and change trebles and repeat that picture perfect cast and hook a bigger and better fish...that search continues.

That, is why I fish and will continue to fish!

At my age (15) I know that some kids do drugs and drink alcohol... Thats not my thing and I would never do that kind of thing. I would much rather spend the day out on the water casting small lures at finicky bream and the nights catching squid or sharks or well, anything. Hard to believe but I have NEVER in my life gone to one of those partys. I much rather stay healthy and spend time doing what I love.

Thats why I fish, thats why I work in a tackle store, thats why I live. Its a way of life and I enjoy every moment of it. An all natural high

Thanks for all the responses so far fellas, keep it up, just a little reminder why we all love this sport away from all the other crap that's going on

Good on you Tom, thats awesome to hear mate keep it up, you never know where it could lead you one day.

Well i fish for all of the above reasons everyone has mentioned. I like simplicity really which is the main reason i fish from a Yak. Just love being out on the water away from the crowds on my own with my own thoughts, love hooking into big bream on the flats and the screaming drag, takes my mind of all my worries. I enjoy comps for the social aspect as much as the fishing, enjoy the thrill of getting that first fish into the boat during a comp, not so much about the final result for me.

Fishing is my RESET, i may of stole that quote off a fellow BM Member but that sums it up fairly well......It doesn't matter where or what you chase, wether it be flicking plastics around Docklands or chasing the elusive metre Barra on the Daly river. Fishing allows you to forget the stresses of work or home and makes things/life a lot simpler...even if I don't catch a thing, I come home happy, the fact that I often get to fish beautiful location with good mates or family makes it even better...FISHING is what we fishermen & women do, it makes us happy -even the horror trips beat being at work....A BAD DAYS FISHING BEATS A GOOD DAY WORKING.........( unless you are a fishing Guide ).

P.s. did I mention I should be off chasing sailfish at Dundee Beach, NT this weekend ???
