Gluing marine carpet help.

What's a good method for gluing marine carpet to wood.

I've seen people who done it the classic, glue on wood and carpet then join.

Only to see air bulges appear later on.

Is there anything I can do before hand to prevent this?

Cheers.

A contact glue like Sellys Kwik Grip is the only stuff to use.
Make sure you cover the wood and carpet surfaces entirely with the glue.
I've done this to a couple of boats I owned and never had any problems.

+1, kwik grip ftw!
paint both surfaces quickly and generously, let it tack, stick together

+ 3 for kiwi grip,

Haven't had any dramas after re carpeting my casting deck. Just make sure you seal the timber with paint or other means before you carpet over it. To stop water getting in.

Cheers

Adam

probs not as good mate as you need to apply quite liberally as the carpet and wood will soak in a little...

I tried some of the spray stuff when i did mine and found it wasnt as effective as using the tin stuff and a paint brush.

The spray didn't achieve the required tackiness.

Kwik grip is the way to go. Also don't forget to seal the ply with a good water proof paint. Even with marine ply, it will pro-long the life of your floor.

Kwik grip is good stuff.

Another product you can get or used to be able to is a brown bottle stuff that I called honey glue. You put it on the wood lay the carpet on and puting it down with some weight distributed over it. It actually foams up a little and spreads out to cover the entire area. Havent seen it for a while though.

I have to say I prefered another product over Kwik Grip. I recently layed carpet on my boat and used outdoor grass carpet glue.

You can get it in 1 and 4 litre tins at bunnings and the best bit is you don't have to coat both surfaces. This also means that you have some time to position the carpet, whereas with kwik grip once both surface are together, it's a pain to adjust. I just coated the glue on the deck with a trowel, layed the carpet and grabbed my mum's rolling pin to push the carpet onto the glue well and truely.

Outdoor grass carpet glue is heat and water resistant and the cost is maybe touch more than kwik grip for a 4 litre tin.

Also make sure you read the instructions and determine whether it is suitable for your application. My boat is fibreglass and I can't remember whether wood is suitable. Check first!

I've also tried to remove a small section and it sticks like s@#t
