Easy loop knot for 10lb+

I was just messing around with some loop knots when I decided to try something that didn't make a lot of sense, and found that it worked and worked well! It's basically a figure 8, like you'd tie for a slim beauty, with the tag passed through the eye of your lure and back through the figure 8. The figure 8 snugs down on your tag and grips it so it doesn't slip. I tried it with 4lb, but it's just not thick enough for the knot to grip itself. I drew up (very badly) some instructions for it. I'd like to hear some feedback on it, to see if it works for anyone else.

1 tie a double overhand

2 snug it down to form a figure 8

3 pass the tag through the eye of your lure

4 pass the tag back through 2 loops, formed by the figure 8

5 gently snug the knot down by pulling the tag (use your teeth) lure and main line.

Will give it a crack and see what happens... You offering a refund on lost lures?

The concept looks like it should work quite well as the knot locks onto itself as the tension increases.

Nice inventing.

Interesting.
I'll give it a go when I get a chance.

Yeah no refunds lol. I tried it on 10 and 16lb FC rock and then tested it by holding the lure and wrapping the line around a knife handle and pulling as hard as i could. It seems to hold pretty well, in fact I'd say better than a regular loop knot. It seems that the figure 8 puts an kink in the tag and locks down on it, and the tighter you pull the tighter it locks down. It'd probably work on 8 or maybe even 6lb, as the 4lb only just let go when I put a decent amount of stress on it.

I need a good alternative to the loop knot... I've had it bust a few times jack fishing, I'll give this a go later tonight on some 20lb see how it goes.

Just make sure you all test it first before you go ahead and ping out a hand carved limited edition megabass swimbait on it lol. I've only tested it with FC rock, and it might not even work on some other lines.

Ties similar to a slim beauty........with the figure 8 etc. I would probably leave the tag end a lil longer incase it slides.

Yeah I left a tag of about 3-4mm, but it hasn't slipped on me yet.

I just hooked it up to some weights. The 10lb FC rock just lifted 4 kg and popped just as the weights left the ground.

Just tried it on 10lb Sufix Siege and some DohDohDohDohty old 30lb mono. Couldn't break the mono and broke the Siege with the same amount of force as it takes to break a 4 turn uni knot.

No slippage. Good knot!
