Fuel pump

How do fuel pumps work on an outboard

I have an 80hp selva with an inbuilt tank

Engine is cutting out at higher revs and when i pump the bulb there is no fuel in there.

The weired thing is that it is fine at mid to low revs

also when i had my floor out due to doing my live well. I noticed a positive and negative wire going onto the fuel tank where it looked like a fuel filter/pump was welded into the tank.

What is that ?

Could be a small blockage in the filter or a dirty filter. this would be more noticeable at higher revs as you would required a larger amount of fuel, if it is not getting through the sale then this may be the problem.

I'm no marine mechanic, but has to be similar to a car?
Dale.

If you can drive at high revs while pumping the bulb and the engine runs fine it rules out your fuel pump. Check your filters for blockages then check all your clamps and fuel lines and your tank vent as well for loose/leaking connections. Fuel bulb could also be the problem. If you have a fuel guage those wires are probably the fuel sender. You shouldnt need an in tank pump, the engine pump + vaccumm should be enough. Sounds like an air lock or leak is causing your problems. good luck with it.

I'm with scubascott I would be looking for a cracked or damaged fuel line or priming bulb.

The problem started after i got some dodgy fuel up in Exmouth.

Full of floaties

I replaced the fuel filter and pulled apart the carbies and cleaned them out.

Thanks for the advice guys.
Ill have a go at checking out the fuel line
