Ok guys,
It seems to me that nobody knows a good outboard mechanic in Melbourne metro area (refer to my previous post). Then, let me rephrase it. Where do you take your trailer and outboard for a service in Melbourne (the backyard specialists inclusive). I cannot believe that there are no other places than JV marine and Boronia where you can service the motor! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Alex |

i just saw its a suzuki, in that case call and book in at leasure sports Marine in safty beach. 4 shops recomended them to me, they specialise in suzuki - most wont touch them. I am booked in this month. (03) 9772 6300
Now i think i have a similar prob to you. My motor started first time, then once i was out in the bay it stalled. then wouldn't start!!! so after getting wet, being pushed into rocks snapping a ore, pushing the boat off rocks back to sea then getting a mate to come down. Then engine started first time!, so i drove the 100m to the ramp where it stopped again not to start. Once home it started again untill warm then stall's. Water pump works, but somthing is playing up so its getting a service etc Maybe yours is along similar lines? |

Hi Sandworm,
Amazingly, the same had happened to me few months back. The engine was worm, we were cruizing at full speed with my son and suddenly the engine stopped! We tried everything-pumping fuel, checking/replacing spark plugs. Then started paddling from Station pier area to the St.Kilda marina. What a job! Tried to start it few more times-nothing. Not even a single cough. Arrived to St. Kilda marina, asked for mechanic-the guy pumped the prime bulb really hard, first pull-bingo! He could not explain the problem, just said "it happens...". Since then-no problems. I replaced a dodgy fuel line connectors, put original Suzuki. But I'd really want to get it serviced properly. Tell me how you went with your service. Cheers, Alex |

Hi Sandworm,
Well mate, .... happens. I suggest you shop around and get alternate quotes to fix the problem, before you commit yourself to big bucks. Seems very steep for the piston replacement though. Try Tony at Footscray Marine 9687 6323. Cheers, Alex |

thats the price of a new motor
i am told its not worth putting money into a old engine however its home now and i plan to do it myself because i cant afford a new motor. I have some pics of damage at the following locations i thinkg there a bit big (sorry) to make them work, click on link then del the "http://" and it should work Back of the Boat / motor Bore / pistons Hole in the top piston Stuffed water pump - note all the tips missing - 3 are on the side others inside engine i guess |
