advice needed

hey there guys,
Im in need of a more suitable rod for SP's and since the funds are limited im lookin at getting the 7' shimano squidgy spin

(id love the black diamond breamreaper but unless someone is kind enough to pass on their credit card details it aint gonna happen )

anyway im unsure whether the reel i have will be suited.

Its the RXB50 model

im thinkin maybe its a tad too big but im really unsure so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Im only thinking it might be after lookin at few in the BM store, mine looks to be a bit bulkier (for want of a better word)

how much of a difference would it make to the balance of the complete outfit if it was marginally heavier?
would there be an alternative rod in roughly the same price range that would be better suited to my reel?

Davo, the reel you mention does look on the large size for normal bream fishing, you need a reel that will take about 150metres of 4 pound Fireline, which most on this site are using. If you live in Perth it may be a good idea to visit the Bream master shop and talk to Geoff, otherwise, check out the small size Daiwa, Shimano and any of the Major brands, a small reel will be less tiring for you to handle all day, balance will be much better, I use a Daiwa Laguna 2500 and that is just bordering on being too big, I reckon. You don't need to spend mega bucks, just shop around for good quality at good prices, let the site know how much you want to spend and you will receive all the right advice from those that know.... just been goin through some of the old posts and checkin out the recommended reels and to say "marginally" heavier was a bit of an understatement. most are around the 9oz weight as apposed to my 16.5oz chunker.
guess im lookin for a new reel too.
ive just about got a rod and reel combo for every fishing occassion (6 rods, 4 reels) and thought i might be able to get away with what i have but my fears have just been confirmed.
when will it end

ok lets say ive got around the $300 mark for a half decent bream setup ...give or take $20-$30, what rod/reel would u guys recommend? I mainly fish SP's but a rod that will still fish HB's reasonably well would obviously be a bonus.

this is just my opinion but i think a daiwa heartland IM6 6' or 6'6" and a daiwa laguna 1500 would work well and works out at $318.95 from breammaster.

ive read a few posts around the forums about the heartland having some breakage problems, i think it was the heartland Z from memory not the IM6... not enough to put me off them entirely but enough to make me a little wary. Hands up how many of you guys use or have used the IM6 and would also recommend it. Ive looked at one and they feel pretty comfortable and its in the price range so if i can get enough praise about them i might pick one up...

if anyone else has any recommendations on what to spend my $300 on then feel free to add some input.

ive had my hartland for a while and it is perfect for chucking all softies and little hardbodies, although i chuck around plenty of r2s lures and it is still fine and chucks em a mile.

Hi Davo,
I've got the 6' IM6 for more than 6 months and have no problems with them at all. Landed many flatheads to 50cm + , a few breams to 40cm on the rod and no signs of breaking. I matched the rod with a little Okuma AV-15. Just the right size for the 6' and well within your budget.
It casts soft plastics very well and will handle hardbodies to the size of a scorpion52. Hope this helps.

theres a new struddy rod thats available for $160. i saw these in BM store last week and i reckon that its the best starter breaming rod that ive seen... way better than the IM6 (IMO). the exact name of the rod is alluding me at the moment but give geoff p a call and he'll be able to sort you out...

Johaness, they're a coupla solid lookin mullas mate so im thinkin if a bream spinning rod can handle a tank of a fish like that its gotta be worth lookin at

Im gonna have to check out the new struddy now tho... how long have they been out for? i was in the BM store just over a week ago and didnt spot it.
Has anyone bought one that can give a "hands on" personal opinion on how they rate?

does the BM store sell rod and reel bags? theres nothin in the online store about them so i was just curious. ive got no idea how much they are but im gonna have to add that to the budget aswell

what are they worth by the way i know they probably vary but a rough figure for something quality

hehe yeh i know the feeling as does everyone on this site. yep they r a nice reel and look the part as well.

i have an avenger 15 on mine and is beautiful.

i know that BM does stock rod tubes and bags, the Grifton brand i think and they are good quality, dont have a price for u tho.
