To trade or Sell?

I have a 2000 model Honda four stroke 15 hp outboard with electric start. It's in great condition.
What could I expect to get for it if I sell privately?

I looked at trading it in and they recon they would give me around the 1000 dollar mark.

Would I get much more if I sold it privately or is the hassle not worth it?

Any ideas or comments would be great.

Cheers
Captain

Hi Captain,

All i can say is don't trade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds lik you are getting ripped off big time!!! My mates dad bought a second hand Johnson 1999 2 stroke for $2000!!!

So a 2000 honda four stroke would have to be worth heaps more you would think.

I would ask a few others. Try asking how much they will sell it for if you trade it in.

hope this helps

Thanks guys.
If I were to advertise it in the trading post what would be a reasonable price to put on it?

Cheers

Okay I spoke to one of my local Honda Dealers and he said somewhere between $2000 and $2500 would be a fair price.

Does this sound right?

I might look at advertiseing it at $2400 and see how I go, might wait till after christmass though.

Cheers

Hi Captain,

I reckon you could get more. Here in tassie anyway. Maybe not so much on the mainland. As i said before, my mates bad spent $2000 on a second hand 1999 2 stroke Johnson. To me your motor would be worth a hell of a lot more. Theres goes well but 4 strokes are worth quite a bit more.

The problem may be that people are willing to spend say $2000 for a good motor such as my mates dads, but no more for a great motor.

If you waited around i reckon you should get minimum $2500. Thats what i reckon anyways.

Thanks eddystone for the reply. All opinions are a great help.

I just don't want to sell for less than I should, cause it really is a great motor in like new condition.
Are there any boat dealers on this site that can give me an idea on what they would sell it for?

Again all opinions are a great help.

Cheers
Captain

Got $2500 for our Honda 4 stroke; pretty sure it was a 2000 model.
