It was a fantastic turn out with 30 odd kayakers, it started raining 10 minutes after the start but turned out to be a nice day, half the feild have not fished the area before and the top 4 place getters have not fished out off a kayak before i believe,so it was an incredible result for them to get the handle on kayak fishing which is a totaly different ball game from boat fishing.

Well done to the Getaway stores for the breakfast, lunch packs and a sausage sizzle and drinks on arrival back at the weighin and the lending of Hobie kayaks for those that never had a kayak,Brett Ozzane assisted in allocateing kayaks i should mention, cheers to CRC, Engel,Hobie and Daiwa and others and for Craig for makeing it sure it all came together on the day, heres a few pictures complete with water marks

Kayakers starting to arrive at location which was at Garvey Park in front of Ron Courntney island and the Ascot canoe club.

The Getaway crew getting brekky ready,

Getting ready,

The area had plenty of snags if thats what you are into, flats, bridges ,rockwalls and eveything else as well,,

Back on dry land as the kayakers arrive,,

Time to start the weighin,,

Szarn Tink picks up 4th place and enjoyed fishing out of a kayak,,

Jack Dawson was heard saying he was having so much fun he was not sure if he would bother fishing as he powered away in a hobie Revolution at the start ,picked up 3rd place,,

2nd went to Dion Robinson, first time fishing in a Hobie kayak as well i believe,,

1st place getter Alex Greisolf spent a bit of time bailing water out of his hard used and well worn demo kayak (didn't think you were getting a new one did you ) he manged to stay afloat and picked up a win another person who has never fished from a yak before so it was a fantastic effort and being a daiwa sponsored angler takeing out a daiwa sponsored event must have been the iceing on the cake,,

Hope to see a few more next time in a Perth yak classic, there was 30 odd but i know some folks that could not make it on the day,,hopefully we will get 50 in say 3 years from now,,

Geez now he's kicking butt in the kayaks as well. Well done Alex and all those who competed. Might try to fish out of one of these some day.

Cheers, Dror

Hey Shorty

Send those pics to Ian Sewell - they may be good enough for the article in the next WAFM - especially the BBQ shot
