Epix 20 servicin....!!!

Heya fellas

I'm about to service my Okuma EFS20, never done it before. For you guys who've done it before, did you wash the pieces in terps to get rid of the old grease and regrease each part?

How about replacing the grease with machine oil go?

Or what do I do, just oil it up?

Umm turps will work but use kero if you have it. The properties of kero are more ideal in removing old grease/oil/dirt/salt buildup. After submerging the individual components in it, pat them dry with a cloth and submerge in water. This is where kero is heaps better than turps because water displaces it off the parts much more than it does with turps. This is good because when you reapply the new gease/oil any leftover turps will start to break it down whilst in use. After taking it out of water, pat dry then leave for a few hours to air dry to ensure no moisture is present when you rebuild the reel.

Use a really light grease for most of the internal parts that move and have contact with other surfaces. Machine oil is useful down the in the pinion gear where the main shaft comes right up the middle. I know some guys spray some of the stuff with lanox/inox or woteva it is called, to help displace any water the reel comes in contact with.

Hope you mange to service it successfully. Don't rush it and u'll find it a piece of piss
