Bream on surface poppers!
I'm looking for poppers/stickbaits for bream that are smaller than 2" long. I've had a look on the net but there doesn't seem to be too much out there. I'm not really after poppers as such, rather something like a stickbait such as a Zara Pooch but a lot smaller. A lure less than 1.5" would be ideal. I've tried surface plastics but these do not seem to be as effective in particular circumstances.
The lure needs to be able to walk-the-dog, as the action is very important Any help is much appreciated. Cheers, Ryan |

Hopper Poppers maybe?????
Hi Ryan,
In the November issue of Fishing world in the tackle section there is advert for hopper poppers made by storm. They are 4cm long (this is less than 2") and weigh 2 grams. they are fitted with VMC trebles. Come in the folloowing colours Brown yellow, Phantom Orange and Phantom (green). Hope this helps eddystone |

The River2Sea lil poppers (bubble pop - I think), wouldn`t be to much bigger than 45mm I don`t think. Have a look at them if you havn`t already done so, great range of colours.
cheers

Thanks for that. What I'm really after is a smaller version of this River2Sea.
I'm not really after a popper as such, the lure needs a more subtle action. Last edited by Ryan; 04-11-2003 at 02:10 AM. |

Dude Steve Bain saw your post and called me with some info to help you out.
He said go buy a Heddon Teeny Torpedo and remove the little propeller blade. Ages ago he was looking for the same thing you are and this is what he did. Kim and Steve catch plenty of bream on them and this is their favourite popper for bream. Hope that helps.......... |

The Heddon Torpedo has been the world's number one selling, top-producing topwater lure for generations. The Torpedo's aerodynamic shape, along with its balance and weight, allow anglers to cast them like a bullet.
The Torpedos fishing lures create a wild splashing surface disturbance and they're tops for schooling fish when fished with short, erratic twitches. Back by popular demand in 2004 is the Magnum Torpedo to include the three newest Torpedo colors. Perfect for bass fishing.... It's about 1 and a half inches long..........the lure that is

Thanks heaps for that Ira! Could you pass on my thanks for Steve when you catch up with him.
Its surprising what a little bit of innovation can do. Will get some this week and give it a go and post a report. Ryan |

Try one of those rubber frogs used for bass, with the built in weedguard you can work it over the roughest of country and the bream bust all over it

Under what conditions should one tie a popper on for bream as I would love to see bream crashing a surface lure?
Is it more of an upstream/summer method when there are a lot of bugs on the surface or can you catch them on poppers in many situations?
